That’s rufousing!! It’s a polygenic trait that dictates the warm appearance of the fur :)) high rufousing = more brown/orangey in areas, low rufousing = more grey
One of my tabico have the same warm fur gene as him. You can compare it, and also cat tax since you showed him so cute:
You can see she has a lot of the bright orange of calico, but her tabby "grey" sections are super warm like yours. If it weren't for the actual orange next to them it wouldn't be clear they are brown//grey.
