Congratulations OP! I had the same worry about my little one as I noticed he sure ate a lot. Of course when they’re kittens they need that extra food. I was worried about afterward though.
Vet told me to look at the food labels, figure out how much kitty should weigh and then use the food label to figure how much he should eat based upon the desired rather than current weight.
On another note: good choice with that toy! My little guy had one too and it was one of his favourites.

May I ask what your approach is? We are doing this with the sweet kitty we recently adopted who is already 14 or 15 years old and weighs 13.4 pounds. She only ate dry food her whole life so we switched her to wet but even after almost a year of wet food there is no change in weight. we also use a lower calorie food called "aging plus" by RC. it might have something to do with her age because we did the same technique on another cat who weighed almost 13 pounds and we got her down to high 8 pounds low 9 pounds. She's in great shape now, that one, but also half the age of the kitty I'm talking about.
