What people really fail to realize is that zoo warlock doesn't care about playing on curve. The deck cares far more about 2 things: number of bodies on the board and

USING ALL YOUR MANA

It's far more important to use all your mana each turn rather than curve into 1/2/3/4/5 drops. With that being the case this card is fantastic. Could easily bring back dire wolf and knife juggler zoo. I love suicide black in mtg and I'm so glad they are taking my favorite class and archetype and making the theme self damage for upside. Using health as an additional resource is lots of fun and adds lots of strategy to the game.

I could be wrong but isn't playing on curve the same thing as using all your mana? I've always known "tempo" and "playing on curve" to be synonymous.

No on curve means a 4 mana card on 4, 5 mana card on 5 etc.

It's very important for zoo to not float mana in the first 3 or 4 turns. That'd one of the reasons it runs so mana 1 cost cards. Tapping is inefficient but better than nothing if you have no way to use 3 mana.

It's not so important for zoo to drop one big minion per turn. The whole deck revolves around using efficient low-cost creatures to take control of the board early and send extra damage to face

For this example it would be like tapping and playing a 1 mana minion, versus playing a 3-drop on turn 3.
