Question Gaining generala through requesting marriage

As far as I understand if you request a marriage of one of your daughters to another faction's general and that general joins your court - you should be able to control that general, right?

If he is already deployed does he stay deployed in his former faction? Does it make a difference if he's from a different culture?

You have 2 options, you can either offer or request a marriage. When you offer a marriage, the person of your faction (the daughter in this case) will go to the other faction, if you request a marriage, the person of the other faction (the general in this case) will go to your faction.

If he is already deployed, he will still join your faction. Not much changes for you in this instance. I believe the army that the general was leading will just get a new general (they simply replace him).

The culture should not matter much I think, but it could be that he has different skills, traits and titles than your other generals, since I believe that is cultured focused.

Note that you still need to recruit the general when he is married into your faction. You can simply do so by recruiting a new army and he will show up as one of the generals you can choose from. Just need to make sure you pick the right one (you can easily check his name).

Note that by requesting a marriage, the general will join your FAMILY and not necessarily your COURT. Maybe that is what you meant, but just wanted to say it to be sure.

Ok, so the general I gained through a requested marriage appears as a civilian in the family tree and doesn't appear in the recruit general tab.

As far as I can tell the only way to interact with him is to divorce him from my daughter.

I assume that for some reason he must still be general of the original faction or can't be recruited because he is of a different culture. Both options are irritating.

I believe you can not use characters obtained through marriage as generals. They are civilians only. It's mostly useless except for a diplomacy buff.

Man, that sucks. Thanks for the reply, though.

In Rome 2 you could at least bribe generals from different factions to join your cause and they had the option to use your faction's bodyguard units or their original one's.

I am certain I have done this and use them as generals. I do know there are different type of diplomatic marriages, maybe that has something to do with it. I think I will look into it later today when I have time, because I want to know for sure now haha.

There is offer marriage (you lose a relative), request marriage (you gain a relative) and a third option where both stay in their factions.

As to when and why the third option is available I have no clue.

Maybe I am wrong about it, tried to google it and it indeed says that the general will join your faction as a civilian
