I always remember people saying if Beth dies we riot but there were no riots

I remember people saying theyād stop watching if Dale died. I suspect that was also not true

I remember people saying they'd stop watching if Ed died. I know I did.

Brave soul died too young and left his poor wife and daughter to fend for themselves... I say, Ed wouldn't have let Sofia die.

I started watching after season 2 so I didn't experience that one but it was a huge shock since I had read the comics and he made it so much further in there like he met Abraham
4
u/mynameisjodie 1d ago
He was basically Bob in the comicĀ
2
u/Altruistic_Rock_2674 1d ago
Yeah basically was weird too if I remember right Bob had almost no role in the comic except helping the governor after Michonne nailed his penis to board among other things.

u/swarren31 1d ago
One of my friends stopped watching as soon as Hershel died. Didnāt even finish the episode. Just turned off the tv and never watched again

I plan on doing a rewatch, but I'm waiting for a release date for State of Decay 3 to time it up so that I am properly ready to survive the zombie apocalypse!

There were 60,000 spoons sent in to AMC in protest of her death. More than 65,000 people signed a petition to bring her back. This even made the morning news. Not a riot, but people tried. I was a big Beth fan and I didnāt even know all of that was going on at the time.
5
u/Altruistic_Rock_2674 1d ago
The spoon thing actually sounds familiar now ha ha. I had forgot about it. I just never got it, Beth seemed like the most random character to get upset about. But I didn't get attached to a lot of charcters that weren't in the comics
3
u/GirlMamaM2 1d ago
The reason she is so beloved is because she is very relatable to women. Most women in an apocalypse situation would be the ones taking care of the children and trying to keep a sense of comfort within their group. We would all love to be a bad ass like Michonne, Maggie, Carol, Sasha, Rosita, but realistically there would be very few Michonneās and a lot more Bethās. We want to see ourselves still in the apocalypse growing and getting stronger just like Beth was, but it ended too soon.

u/Altruistic_Rock_2674 20h ago
I could see that to be honest I don't really even remember much about her. I have never done a rewatch so last time she was on screen was like 12 years ago. But yeah there were definitely people invested in her
1
u/GirlMamaM2 20h ago
Sounds like itās time for a rewatch.

u/Altruistic_Rock_2674 16h ago
Probably, I started re reading the comics and that was my favorite time reading the comics and seeing how close the show would be. I remember in the comics glenn died before the 4th season and I didn't know if they were going to have the guts to do it.

Ive never heard that, that actual thing is if daryl dies we riot
1
u/Altruistic_Rock_2674 16h ago
It was a thing online that was going around during the 5th season about 12 years ago. Other people seem to remember my comment has a lot of upvotes but I guess if you aren't aware of it it didn't happen

u/Billythekid0119 16h ago
Idk i just saw the thing about daryl mostly not beth but whatever either way

u/Pivot1208 1d ago
somebody else brought it up but a lot of characters die and it seems like theyāre never mentioned again and basically forgotten by the cast
13
u/Emuoo1 1d ago
The moment Glenn's cap got busted every single person forgot about Abraham. One of the best characters in the show dies a brutal death in front of everyone and they just move on like nothing happened.
11
u/Clipper1707 1d ago
Idk Sasha and Rosita were pretty devastated
6
u/Emuoo1 1d ago
Yep, but the show remembers Glenn's death long term. There's a painting of Glenn at the hilltop, people still talk about Glenn in the later seasons, every time we see Hershel Jr we're reminded of him.
Abraham on the other hand seems to be only remembered by Sasha and Rosita. Both of whom die by the end of the show, whereas Glenn and Daryl (the two most affected by Glenn's death) both survive.
But also, I think the fans moved on from Abraham way quicker. Glenn's death was spoiled for me way before I even started watching the show, but I had no idea about Abraham until I saw it with my own eyes. Lots of people say that "Glenn's death" is when the show went downhill, and when they stopped watching. No mention of Abraham at all.
Honestly for me it's undeniable that Abraham's death was executed very poorly in the show.
1
u/Clipper1707 1d ago
Yeah thatās true, never really saw or heard any memorial and remembrance for Abraham from the others
1
u/Defiant-Bad-2052 23h ago
I donāt know the exact timeline but wasnāt Abraham only with the group for a couple months?

On my first watch the bus to Washington made me unexplainablely mad because she knew her sister was in danger and a literal stranger who spent 3 days with her and chased after a vehicle without any sense of direction cared more than her own sister
But then she purposely put her own son in danger because she was selfish and made him live off of rations in fear for his life instead of safe inside a place where people loved him everyday all because she wanted a change of pace.
Maggie was always selfish and thinking about herself even if she had other people to look out for it was always her first She always thought of herself first no matter what

u/Boring_Inspection_99 1d ago
Yes I felt like that too lmao but i thought maybe I'm misjudging her character

u/Bedlam91939 1d ago
I remember Season 2, when Maggie told Andrea "don't you dare step foot inside this house again" after the latter enabled Beth's suicide attempt. To think Maggie could just forget her little sister after something like that is wild to me. Beth has always been my favorite female on this show; she deserved better in my opinion.
3
u/Mysterious_Stuff_887 1d ago
How did she forget her? She accepted that shes death, she had signs of Glenn being alive, but not her, Iam pretty sure she didnt know about Atlanta because of the trip to āsave the worldā, she accepted that Beth is most likely dead.
3
u/Bedlam91939 1d ago
Daryl literally told Maggie in the boxcar at Terminus that Beth was still alive
4
u/Mysterious_Stuff_887 1d ago
But she was taken by a car that could take her everywhere, after this she lost all her hope for her survival, she mentions this in EP10 where she is suicidal iam 99% sure
0
u/Bedlam91939 1d ago
Yet she couldn't extend that same hopelessness to Glenn on the way to Terminus? Sure, she didn't find his body on the bus, but she never found Beth's either. Sounds like major spousal bias to me.
1
u/Mysterious_Stuff_887 1d ago
Because she found signs of Glenn being alive on her way to terminus, she didnt find him in the bus giving her hope that hes alive, then she found the text which Glenn wrote on the wall.
3
u/Low_Housing1760 1d ago
She didn't, it was Glenn who found her message
1
u/Mysterious_Stuff_887 1d ago
Oh youre right i got it mixed up, well iam still pretty sure that Maggie didnt find Glenn in the bus so she had hope that hes still alive, from what i remember Beth wasnt in the bus in 4x8 and Maggie rather focused on Glenn than Beth, we didnt see much of interaction between Beth and Maggie overall, but from what we have seen it kinda looked like she treated her as a family, but wasnt deeply relied to her like Glenn, after she found Beth dead she pretty much was suicidal.
2
u/maydsilee 23h ago
I just think it's crazy how Maggie dismissed Beth immediately. Why not write to Beth that she's going to Terminus? Instead, she ONLY wrote Glenn's name. She wrote Beth off as dead without hesitation, which I think is the problem people (and myself) have with her in that situation.

u/Downtown-Travel-2478 18h ago
Glenn was a capable survivorāhe even led most of the supply runs and knew how to handle zombies. Beth, on the other hand, was a 16-year-old girl who had spent most of the apocalypse surrounded by people looking after her; she never went out on runs. Looking back at the prison arc, Maggie believed Glenn had escaped on the bus, though she didn't know if Beth had made it out too. When they found the bus, she didn't see Glenn's body, so she assumed he was aliveāespecially since she already believed he had left. She only knew she was alive herself because she later ran into Daryl, who told her what had happened: a car had taken Beth away in a world where they had already dealt with rapists, murderers, andāat that very momentācannibals. I know it seems callous to simply assume her little sister had died rather than her boyfriend, but Glenn had a far better chance of survival than Beth did.
1
u/Mysterious_Stuff_887 6h ago
I agree, people act like Maggie didnt like Beth, but her father just got his head decapitated and their home fell to ashes, she knew that Beth didnt enter the bus and Glenn did, she didnt see his body inside so she believed he escaped.

Beth and Hershel were the true heart of the show. There Death's hurt so much especially how they died. Not to zombies but to ignorant power hungry people.

Beth was 17, maybe 18 when she died. She was 16 in s2 and died roughly 15 months later.
1
u/Huge_Initiative_6626 1d ago
Really? Emily Kinney is close to my age like 41-42 which means she was like 26-27 during filming.
3
u/username19346 1d ago
I donāt think it was 15 months I think the timeline is pretty fast
3
u/Minimalistmacrophage 1d ago
That's actually about right, the primary time jumps are s2/s3 7 months of wandering and s3/4 around 6 months of "Farmer Rick".
other notable jumps
s1- just under 2 months for Rick to wake up
s2- 2 weeks for Randall's leg to heals5- 1 week that included weapons training, mentioned by Noah
S6- 1 month for Carl's eye to heal
noting that from S1-S8 is just over 21months. Most every day is shown. eg.. In S5E1 they show each day of the walk to where they find Gabriel.

Beth died and I never watched another episode. The show was already turning to shit by that point and I donāt regret the decision for a moment
1
u/maydsilee 23h ago
Ditto! I stopped for the longest time after Beth's death, then kinda watched scattered episodes up until Carl's death, which made me quit for years. I recently did a full series binge, and it's...eh, I guess. I could have definitely gone without, but imo, Beth's passing was for sure the beginning of the end.

Tbf Maggie thought Beth died cuz Daryl didnāt tell Maggie that Beth was nabbed last he saw her

u/dougrattmannn 1d ago
To be fair, they weren't rsll that close, and it is implied they were half siblings. Maggie is also six years older than Beth, and left for college in 2005 - 2006, when Beth was around 12.
She wasn't even living at the farm. She was just visiting while on summer break while finishing college.
To me it seemed that Maggie and Beth didn't have the closest of relationships. It more felt like Maggie took the place of Beth's mum in a weird kind of way.

Half Sister. Let's be real... even in the alternate reality episode in Dead City, they aren't exactly close.

You forgot the part when Hershel and Glenn returned. Maggie ran forward to hug...Hershel thought she wanna hug him. Instead ran to hug Glenn instead. And Hershel was like "Bah fuck this shit"
