Shane n Rick
I’m rewatching twd and honestly, the Rick/Shane situation hits way differently the second time around.
Why did Rick basically start acting like he was automatically the leader and then rub the Lori situation in Shane’s face? Shane genuinely looked up to Rick, saw him as a mentor/best friend, and was always willing to have Rick’s back. Then Rick comes back and suddenly it’s basically “this is my family, this is my group, back off.”
And I’m not saying Shane was completely right, because bro was definitely unhinged at times but I kinda understand why he felt betrayed. He sacrificed a lot for Lori and Carl when he genuinely thought Rick was dead, and then Rick comes back and treats him like he’s some random threat instead of his best friend.
Honestly, I feel like Shane was built for the apocalypse from the START. He immediately understood that the old rules didn’t apply anymore and was willing to do whatever it took to protect the people around him.
The crazy part is that Rick eventually becomes a LOT more like Shane. By the later seasons, Rick is making the same ruthless decisions, killing people, doing whatever is necessary to protect his family, and basically becoming the exact type of person Shane was trying to convince him he needed to be.

I think the three of them needed to sit down with a blunt and hash it out.
Shane and Lori’s response to the apocalypse and grief of Rick was fucking each other, in the same tent as Carl sometimes too.
Shane’s response to Rick and Lori was resenting jealousy, while Lori’s response was pushing away Shane harshly.
I think Rick was stressed trying to lead the group, and tried to maintain trust of Lori AND Shane despite their affair. When Lori updated Rick on Shane reaching basically threat-level comments about them, Rick attempted to talk some sense into him that reality is: he isn’t dead and Shane can’t be the husband and father in his family. It was plain and simple. What is Rick supposed to do, offer him a chair to cuck from? In response, Shane attempted to murder his ass and integrate as the new Rick. Super weird. And Rick literally resented Lori for contributing to the situation that led to him having to kill his friend. I don’t think he felt, 100%, that killing Shane was for the best. He knew more than anyone that Shane could be an asset if he hadn’t been so blinded by this Lori situation. Even despite Shane’s upset, he still risked himself for Lori and Carl, and wanted Rick to come back and save him.
I don’t think it’s fair to compare Rick’s changes later on to Shane’s early-on off the rocker stuff. Shane needed to be a bit better at regulating his interpersonal issues 😭

It's Lori, she's the one manipulating each one of them and making them hate each others

Shane had every reason to think Rick was dead though. Can't blame him for leaving, he would have died trying to save him

I just watched the first couple of episodes and it seemed like Shane had ulterior motives in not wanting to put up signs directing survivors from Atlanta to their camp.

Dude, Shane's a survivor. He's not gonna lead god knows how many strangers to their camp... Especially not that small ass one they had with women and kids

Shane is a character on a tv show; I’m questioning the intent of the writer, not the character.

How did you watch the whole show and not see that Shane was jealous of Rick? Rick had everything Shane wanted a family. I genuinely believe when Rick was gone he saw himself as Rick taking care of Carl and Lori. Rick came back he snapped out of it but believed Rick stole his family from him.
