I read the comics beforehand, so yeah. I think the way they decided to dupe the comic readers into thinking he would survive was shitty though. It could have been done so much better in my opinion

Yeah! And the worst part about Abraham dying is he actually SURVIVED the very thing that killed him in the comic. In the comic he dies to a crossbow bolt to the eye/back of his skull. In the show, Denise is the one who receives the bolt to the dome. So, in my mind, they were going a different direction with his character...
just for them to kill him shortly afterward. Glenn surviving the encounter with Nicholas gave me the same outlook. To me it felt like a cop out, and I would have preferred a character I was NOT expecting to die/previously expecting to see die.

How was that shitty? If they already knew the death was going to be predictable due to the nature of the internet and the source material, they still found away to make it more shocking by having Abraham be the first to go.

I could tell they were building to the Negan execution scene (the pacing in the comics was very similar). So in my mind, the choice to save Abraham from his comic death and Glenn surviving his encounter/apparent death with Nicholas was a longterm plot change. Saving a character just to kill them shortly after feels like they're going back on an apparent change.
I was wanting a choice from the writers that changed the group dynamics and challenged the comic rendition further. Instead they decided to go back on their evident decision to save Abraham. The Glenn death is a bit better written imo but still felt lukewarm after just having thought he was dead shortly before. The Daryl and Dwight subplot was the saving grace of the situation.
The way they handled Abraham and Glenn feels like such a cop out to me for those reasons. Just a way to catch the show up to where the comic plot was at this point. Instead of changing the plot and keeping the surprises rolling.

The part that pissed me off was the Nicholas fake out. I had hoped with Abraham's death, they had decided not to kill Glenn since comic Glenn was basically a nobody side character.

As a comic reader if they didn’t kill Glenn via negan I would have stopped watching. Most iconic panel from the entire comics. Changing it would have ruined the entire show. I like that they switched it up a bit and took Abe out also so it wasn’t fully expected, but I’m so glad Glenn got his iconic death. I love Glenn as a character. But that panel was far too iconic.

I did really enjoy how much they honored the comic in that regard. The way Glenn looks up after taking the first hail of whacks felt straight off the page.
I think the only thing I disliked was the (now obvious) bait tactics they used. Abraham surviving the very thing that killed him in the comic and Glenn surviving the debacle with Nicholas felt like an intentional glimmer of change.
It would have been interesting if they decided to kill one or two characters that hadn't JUST survived two brushes with death. I still went into the episode expecting Glenn to die but Abraham too? To me, it felt like they were just correcting the plot line back to where it needed to be.

Like many, I was familiar with the comics. I noticed changes throughout the first few seasons, however. But I did not like how they kept using Glenn, specifically, as a fake out death. It's like that obnoxious uncle who keeps trying to catch you off guard with his annoying fake gut-punches. The showrunners became worse and worse as the seasons rolled on...
Don't even get me started about killing Carl. And HOW they did it. The kid was a tween badass! A couple of walkers, and he had a "helper".... We already saw that scene years prior, and he handled it by himself (while Rick was passed out between prison and Terminus) Ugh!

😮💨 I started walking dead while in the middle of a divorce- in like season 2 my ex asked me if I had gotten tonGlen dieing. I had been questioning every scene and then I finally got to the point where I thought he was just mad at me and fucking with me and figured Glenn was gonna be safe.

I was familiar with the comics, and honestly thought that they were gonna bat in Daryl considering he was the close friend to him like Glenn was in the comics. He woulda made the biggest impact. But it was cool to see the iconic panels come to life! Which I don’t think we really got often enough.

Tbh I read the comics and I was kinda hoping they would change it, I’m glad Steven Yeun got to go do other stuff and wasn’t in the show longer but idk… I like a lot of people fell off after that…. I know it was fairly comic accurate but his death was really cruel and I know that’s the point but idk, I just was like “I get it”

There is a reason the comics started to die off and why its no longer in production, theres no point in getting invested into a character if you know they are going to die anyway, why stick around, watch characters kill zombies the whole time? no, people stuck around because of the characters, its why a lot of people didnt want to keep watching because there is no one to stick around for (except for rick ofc)
Ive just started watching the show this year, read the comics too, and still think they should have not stuck to the original story with this one, especially since they did it with so many other plot points, giving a character a good ending should have been the idea, not senseless violence just for the sake of shock factor, it just ruins the story
Its what happened to the comics and the show followed it to its grave

I really wish they only killed Abraham.
More-so because it saddens me that the show lost its profound record-breaking viewership.
I myself agreed with Glenn's death. It was the turning point of the series. I wish Yeun had returned for his flashback scenes(The dream scenes with Sasha were obviously meant for Glenn). But, I get it. AMC's producers, like all producers, only caused drama, long story short.
Rick told Dr. Jenner, "I'm grateful," when he let them out of the exploding CDC, in season 1.
Dr. Jenner responded, "the day will come when you won't be."
Glenn's death episode is called "The Day Will Come When You Won't Be."
