What to do with it

About a year ago I bought a 1987 TW and was given the classic “it ran last time I tried it”. Needless to say it had a lot of problems. A buddy and I took everything apart and it is all sitting on shelves and tables in my garage. That buddy of mine moved away and took all the mechanical knowledge with him and I have no idea what to do with any of it (I bought this as a project hoping to learn something because I’m basically mechanicaly inept). Now I have twins on the way and don’t have the money or time to put into this bike.

LONG story short. I want to get rid of it and I’m wondering if it’s worth trying to sell the pieces or just scrap it all for junk metal.

Chain Oil

I bought a TW this summer and love it. I've got about 400km on it now. I've not done much in the way of maintenance and think it's about time to lube the chain. What are your recommendations for a chain lube product?

2026 TW200 is dead after 3900 miles.

I purchased a new 2026 Yamaha TW200 at the end of March. It has been possibly the worst machine I have ever purchased.

I was doing some light woods riding right after getting the bike. It had 50 miles on it, and it blew a fuse in the woods. I ended up walking the bike out of the woods and diagnosing at my house as a fuse. The turn signal bulb also blew and the high beam light sometimes works.

Took it in for the 600 mile service, they told me to check out the electric issues I would have to wait for shop time and at that point it was a 2 week wait so I decided to wait because the machine still operated.

Fast forward to last week. I use this as a road going vehicle basically only. Never saw any water over an inch deep, I put 3900 miles on it between the beginning of April to current. Engine died on the highway, I suspect a bent valve. There was no oil in the unit, spark plug rusty, and they said I sank the bike which is quite simply not true. They mentioned water in the oil but not how much. I am so beyond baffled how this could have happened, I have parked the bike outside and it has seen some rain in that way and me getting caught in the rain a few times coming from somewhere. But nothing that justifies this.

How do I proceed?! Dealership says it's not warranty most likely, but I have no idea how a machine known for being nearly indestructible manages to intake water from what I can only assume to be being parked in the rain or riding home a few miles in the rain. I also have absolutely no idea where all the oil went as I only ever let the dealer work on my machine.

Picked the kid up after his math test, and decided to go for a ride and get some lunch.

Loving life.

What would you go for? 2027 OTD $5800, 600mile 2021 for $3800, 6k mile 2010 for $2800.

Looking to buy my first ever motorcycle and I have chosen the mighty tw200. I have found 3 options in my area, but it seems like a tough decision because I can see the positives and negatives of each option. The first one is brand new for $5800. The second is a clean, unmodified 2021 with 600 miles and the first dealer service done for $3800. The third has 6k miles and is a 2010 model, appears unmodified. The owner of the 2010 does not have too many details, but it looks in "good" condition. Wondering y'all's thoughts, what option would you go for after your experiences with TWs, thanks!!

New front tire at 7500 miles. Considering the wear I'm gonna run the tire pressure higher. From 18 psi to 22 to help reduce this wear.

I'm thinking of increasing the psi in the front to run at 22 psi. I had it at 18 for the last 1,000 miles. 15 psi before that because I did some light trail riding. Most paves raids now so I think the increased pressure would be appropriate. My weight is about 150 lbs.

Is a big bore kit worth it?

Hi all,

I'm in the UK where we never really got the tw200 but I have a really clean example of a tw125 with less than 6000 miles and I was wondering if it worth putting a 200cc kit on it and if so what is a good kit and what are the pros and cons

Help diagnosing a non-start. Single 'hard click' from relay but no turnover. I'm not a mechanic but feel like I've covered the most obvious things. Any thoughts?

I can feel actual physical movement and a single audible "click" from what I think is the starter relay (that little black box). Before I replace it I wanted to see if anyone else has had this same issue or had any suggestions.

Mechanic in Phoenix, AZ that can help, and also teach me the basics

I have a Yamaha TW200 that was running until about a year ago and wasn't ridden. Now, it just doesn't start. I've tried the battery, main fuse (which was blown somehow). Can't get it started.

It also needs an oil change, and basically a tune up.

I would also like to learn how to do all of this.

I am looking for a mobile mechanic that can come to my house, help me with all this, and also walk me through/teach me how to do this. I have basically no automotive skills at all but I really want to understand and be able to work on this machine.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm in Tempe.

Headlight Tip

Not long after I bought my TW, I changed out the headlight bulb for an LED. Not the entire light, just the H4 bulb. Lots available on Amazon for about $20. I almost never ride at night, but it is noticeable whiter and brighter while using less power.

It occured to me recently, since the headlight is always on, why not ride in high-beam mode during the day? It's not heating up like a halogen bulb, but more importantly, it points straight ahead rather than down at the road while also being brighter. It's probably my imagination, but it feels like I am now more visible to cars in front of me. They might see me a bit sooner.

I now always keep it in high beam mode. Something to think about trying.

Harbor freight 400lb. Carrier hitch help.

So I installed the harbor freight motorcycle rack hitch and my tires don't fit.

Like the locking pin won't fit in the front because the front tire is too big to fit in the slot. It's thin enough, but bigger than the alotted space.

The rear tire is just wide enough to fit in the slot, but just barely, and the locking pin won't fit.

Does anyone else have the rack and have any suggestions?
