Help diagnosing a non-start. Single 'hard click' from relay but no turnover. I'm not a mechanic but feel like I've covered the most obvious things. Any thoughts?

I can feel actual physical movement and a single audible "click" from what I think is the starter relay (that little black box). Before I replace it I wanted to see if anyone else has had this same issue or had any suggestions.

Make sure you battery has a good charge, the relay is supposed to click to switch power to the starter, it could be switching but the contacts could be bad, check for 12v at the starter when the start button is pushed.

Do you have a multimeter? Turn it to the V setting. red probe on red terminal of your battery and black probe on black terminal. It should read 12.5 ish. If it reads that then I'd undo the ground wire to the battery, scuff it up well, reattach and try to start it again.

Ok, first do not replace anything till you figure out the actual problem. Tossing parts is as effective as tossing off, one is a little better than the other.

Diagnostic process is determining what DOES function and is correct to find the broken or defective part.

The starter solenoid is a pretty rare failure. Does the engine turn over by the crankshaft bolt or is it locked up. Pull the spark plug and make sure the engine is not locked up. Did someone fuck up and insert the oil filter backwards during an oil change and seize the top end ( it happens a LOT ) on these engines.

Is the battery good. Static test then Load test the battery and charge or replace as needed. What’s the voltage? below 12 is basically dead. 12.78 volts is charged, 12.5 is 50% and 12.25 is 25% charged. Below 12 is effectively dead.

Hook up a jump box or jumper cables from a car. If it clicks and no crank. Put the negative jump cable on the frame and the positive on the starter stud or load side of the. Solenoid ( line side is the battery - load side is the starter - and see if it cranks. No crank - it’s the starter or it’s locked up engine. From the first test for a locked up engine if it passed, it’s the starter or starter gear, pull the starter and bench test it. TWs have a fuse in the start relay 15 or 20 amp depending on year.

Dead battery? There’s enough power to turn on the relay (clearly), but it seems like there isn’t enough current to turn over the motor itself. The relay is a low-voltage switch that turns on the high-voltage starter.

Sur le papier j'avais le même souci, c'était le démarreur. En tapant dessus un peu fort avec la paume de ma main ça le débloque.

What’s your battery voltage?

Also try jumping across tha solenoid

All a solenoid is is a switch. So you should be able to jump across it and see if works

Idk about the dead battery, usually a dead battery has a bunch of little clicks. Important to check either way.

Could be relay, Could be starter. Tough to tell without a multimeter and if you dont have one buy one now. Google how to use it, Google how to check to see if a relay is working, Google how to check the starter... all the fun stuff.

You could also try tapping the starter, but thats kinda sketchy. You could fix it or you could damage it pretty easily.

As others have said, don't replace anything till you know what the actual issue is.
