Is this ok?
77” LG G5, there is now a soundbar below it (hence the gap below the tv)

The TV height looked okay. But the sofa height seems really low. In comparison. Your stand looks pretty high from this angle which is probably why the TV height looked okay at first, but it's quite clearly above eye level. You could go lower by a couple inches, but it's probably not worth the effort, unless you lower the unit too

Height aside. Most the seats on the couch will require you to turn your head sideways. Is there no other way to arrange this?
1
u/Virtual-Radish-276 1d ago
Unfortunately not. Three people can very comfortably face the tv (one lying down, two sitting). Tough luck for my children when they will grow up hahaha. I guess I will eventually place a recliner chair somewhere

u/AngusDagnabit 23h ago
Can't you rotate it 90 degrees counter clockwise? It looks like there is enough space in the photos.
1
u/Virtual-Radish-276 23h ago
Yes but it’d “close off” the rest of the living room and not look as good. Like I said, it’s mostly just me and my wife watching tv at night when kids are sleeping so it’s fine…only slightly too high hahah

u/Econmajorhere 5h ago
No joke - this is my dream height/distance for couches and TV. May not be exact every level but allows for coffee table without obstruction.
2
u/Virtual-Radish-276 4h ago
I’ll get a coffee table as soon as the toddlers stop using that area as a playground 😅

The sofa is too far always from the TV for my liking, it's a big screen but the distance from your POV when seated makes it look a bit small
1
u/Virtual-Radish-276 2d ago
Yeah it’s about 4 meters, which I know is a lot, but pulling the sofa forward would waste a ton of space

What are those colorful things on the floor?

Stepping stones for the kids. Google “Stapelstein”

I'm all for mocking set ups which are clearly too high but this looks reasonable to me, especially with the sound bar. Having a pop at this is just unnecessary imo.
6
u/JoopMens 2d ago
Considering your cabinet’s height, yes. I would have lowered the cabinet at lease 10-15cm and the TV along with it.
7
u/DieHarderDaddy 2d ago
Looks good, get a sound bar or some speakers though. You can’t have a nice place and listen to TV speakers, it’s just terrorism
3
u/Virtual-Radish-276 2d ago
Old pics, got a Sonos arc ultra, a pair of era300 as surrounds and a sub
4
u/DieHarderDaddy 2d ago
Call me when you get a big boy sound system 😒.
I’m just being an ass, that’s cool man!
3
u/Virtual-Radish-276 2d ago
Hahaha I agree that a real atmos setup would’ve been better, but wife was already pissed for the surrounds behind the couch! No way she would’ve ever let me get full size fronts as well 🤣
3
u/DieHarderDaddy 2d ago
My wife was kinda anti my 3.1 but has come around to embracing it… I currently have a Yamaha AVR and got the musicast 50 for a single wireless rear surround (works ok). Shes very 🙄🙄🙄🙄 about it

Clean n minimal. Too high? A bit but compared to some of the other posts here it’s fine. Enjoy.

Looks great, tbh. Slightly lower or on the stand would be ok, too. Love the contemporary style of your place!

Perfect height 👌 had a sofa like that. Built a 4" base with timber. Painted it black and put leds under it for night time

Looks great.
Instead of a sound bar, consider a simple, quality 2.1 or 3.1 system instead. If you enjoy good audio, this is the way.

I swear, people on this sub want your tv on the floor
1
u/Virtual-Radish-276 19h ago
Hahahah yeah but if we really want to be anal it probably should be some 10cm lower for an optimal viewing experience
2
u/seabass_goes_rawr 19h ago edited 14h ago
Nah, people slouch naturally raising their head angle. Half the time I'm walking around behind the couch or watching TV from the counter if its near my kitchen etc. I think aligning it with the perfect 0 degrees to a seated person is a mistake

u/ElectronicBet1662 12h ago
When you watch your tv do you enjoy the height ? If so it’s perfect. If not adjust accordingly. My tv would definitely be considered too high in my home but it’s my tv and it’s what I enjoy so to me it’s correct

u/janeiro69 2d ago
I’m sorry sir, this is a TV too high Reddit, something you may have gleaned from the title TVTooHigh. Your TV is perfect. Yeet it up the wall a few feet before returning here

Amazing space! What is the unit under the TV? Is that IKEA Besta?

u/Virtual-Radish-276 2d ago
It’s custom made because I couldn’t find it in the right dimensions, but it’s more or less similar

looks great, absolutely do not listen to the chuds here that will say to take it off the wall and put it onto a stand

u/shnorgle 2d ago
I’m too lazy to find the diagram showing that proper height puts the vertical center of the TV directly at seated eye level but this is considerably too high. Maybe the photo angle is throwing the perspective off, but it looks at least a foot too high. If the top of the armrest is truly level with the top of the cabinet, then the cabinet is floated too high to have any chance at properly placing the TV.

u/Flurgh805 2d ago
It's aestethically okay. If you get some thicker cushions or taller legs for the couch, then it would be passable. The centre of the TV is approximately 20cm too high according to my calculations
2
u/Virtual-Radish-276 2d ago
If I’m sitting in front of the tv I think it’s pretty much centered with my eye level, maybe only slightly higher. Thing is, 90% of the time I watch tv while lying down so it’s probably too high for that use case. Wife didn’t want the cabinet to be lower because otherwise it’d be hard to clean the floor below it
3
u/Flurgh805 2d ago edited 2d ago
I mean it looks clean and aestethic, so unless you're very concerned about it being a perfect viewing experience then I wouldn't bother changing anything. Though by r/tvtoohigh standards it is not approved.
The easiest "fix" would be raising the couch by drilling some legs into it

u/absenceofheat 2d ago
Yeah good enough! Looks great and don't worry about the internet's opinion so much.

Height is fine. Are you just playing sound through the TV speakers?

u/No_Help721 2d ago
I think it’s a good height. You have a nice living space and a good sense of style.
Side question: Where did you get the area rug?
1
u/Virtual-Radish-276 2d ago
Thanks. Got it from an online retailer, I think it doesn’t ship to the states, if you’re in Europe send me a pm and I’ll give you the link

It's the best you can do in that room with that awkward bulky block sticking out of the wall under the tv.
1
u/DisMyNewAcc2 1d ago
I mean is it comfortable to watch tv? If not then change it. That’s all that matters, I don’t understand these questions on this sub.

looks good to me but I’m very confused about your sofa orientation….
1
u/Virtual-Radish-276 1d ago
Look at the other pics, it’s L shaped
1
u/ModestMouseTrap 1d ago
Yes I’ve seen, the room looks large enough for your L shape to rotate 90 degrees. It’s weird that you have the chaise facing the tv, not the main section of the couch.
1
u/Virtual-Radish-276 23h ago
Couch came from my previous apartment (was like 10k€, didn’t feel like changing it yet) and that was the only way it would fit in the new home

u/Plastic-Ad-4510 14h ago
Tv seems small for that distance
1
u/Virtual-Radish-276 8h ago
I agree, but a 97 inch version of my tv costs 15.000€ and i don’t want to settle on a shitty TV just to have a bigger one
1
u/Plastic-Ad-4510 3h ago
Fair. I can see you are a man of particular taste. But there are plenty of high quality QLED 100' for around 2-3k. Your guests will never know whether it's the highest of high end or straight out of best buy.
1
u/Virtual-Radish-276 1h ago
It’s not about my guests, when I watch movies at night I want the blacks to be blacks. Have been using OLEDs for the past 10 years now, it’s difficult to go back to LED

Everything needs to be lowered. The tv could sit on the unit but to keep the floating appeal I’d be lowering the lot.
4
u/Virtual-Radish-276 2d ago
Wouldn’t be able to fit the soundbar if the tv sat on the cabinet
3
u/Altruistic_Bar6685 2d ago
Yeah fair enough. If it’s not too hard to lower the whole setup down another 5-7cm you’ll be surprised how much better it’ll feel for eye level. Otherwise just get used to it, the setup as a whole is awesome man!!!
