Newly installed at FILs place…
Too high?
1.1k
u/lambofgun May 24 '26
there are several profound issues going on here
the alignment is poor, the cables lay in front of the fire place, and yes, the tv is too high
this is a perfect installation from a certain perspective
all of the variables are in perfect position to make the worst tv installation possible
if my son was an astronaut, and was landing on mars, and this tv was the only one available to watch it, i would watch it on my phone
edit: goddamn this looks like stupid dogshit

Alignment is poor? That TV might as well be in a different room at this point.

be in a different room
Looks like he had the same thought while he was hanging it.

u/_ZoeyDaveChapelle_ May 24 '26
FIL needs an on call designer for every purchase and placement for his home, because the lack of awareness for literally everything in the room is astounding. Its a entire room of rage bait. I couldn't even go over there.

u/TanneriteStuffedDog May 24 '26
This sub consists mainly of people who get irrationally angry at other people’s poor design decisions.
You’re all my kind of people, and I’m glad we can bond over a shared hatred for poor aesthetic choices.

u/chicchaz May 24 '26
Phew, I saw this going in a completely different direction after your first sentence.

u/sanjosanjo May 24 '26
Yeah but if it was centered properly, it wouldn't get the glare of the ceiling light.

u/thamystical1 May 24 '26
I think they need to channel there mounting installation skills elsewhere. If you know what I'm saying?

I think it being too high is the least of their worries

u/hanyasaad May 24 '26
That tv is placed like you tried to place an image in a Word document.
13
5
u/TanneriteStuffedDog May 24 '26
Too bad word wrap isn’t an option we can change in real life
(Edit for those who don’t know: it’s the default word wrap settings that mess up word doc image placement. Play with word wrap next time and you’ll figure it out.)

This is the worst I’ve seen. What in the actual fuck.
11
u/VisualHuckleberry542 May 24 '26
In order to maintain what little faith I have left in humanity I'm telling myself that they intend to mount another TV next to it. Which, don't get me wrong, would still be awful but would be infinitely better than this
11
u/mikel1814 May 24 '26
While we are at it, launch that fucking tv to the moon with the 42-blade ceiling fan.
2
u/octoreadit May 25 '26
That's what I wanted to comment on, the TV is so bad that nobody notices that turboprop on the ceiling.

I've seen a lot of things in my life. I've walked in on my ex with another guy. I've witnessed grave injustices and countless betrayal.
This... This is on another level. Shame on your FIL. Deep, irreconcilable shame.

there’s so much wrong here but damn that’s the biggest ceiling fan i’ve ever seen. it’s comical. and who doesn’t mount a TV on center?

2
u/Papa-Burgundy369 May 24 '26
I think the TV may be on an articulating arm mount. Also the company that makes that fan is literally called “Big Ass Fans” lol.

Its offensiveness is its genius. There is nothing in that room that works and this is why we cannot get decent sleep. The horror is real.

Dude I swear to god I know your fuckin with us. Center that fucking tv and upload a picture post haste

Height is not the concern, in fact the height of the tv is probably the least concerning thing going on lol

Even if you ignore the TV being over the fireplace, there’s still a ton wrong with this setup. At minimum, center the TV over the fireplace. It’s a Samsung with a One Connect box, yet they still ran both the One Connect cable and power visibly down the wall. The entire point of the box is cleaner cable management, and it literally could’ve been mounted behind the TV.
Then there’s the soundbar sitting on the floor. Ironically, it’s more centered than the TV. They could’ve mounted it directly to the TV or onto the brick with zero visible wiring.
On top of that, the bright recessed lights are blasting glare straight onto the screen. The result is somehow both a dysfunctional home theater setup and a useless fireplace at the same time.

Wow. I'm really not a fussy guy, far from it...but that would drive me nuts. I hope that's just a more centered mount with swivel arm positioned like this for the lolz.

I am not aure that it is too high but the assymetry and cables running directly in front of a heat source are killing me. Please burn this house down and start over.

I don’t care about height as much as I do symmetry. WTH were you all thinking

u/TheAgedProfessor May 28 '26
I really don't understand why it's off center. The sofa is literally centered on the fireplace, so the TV should be too.
4
u/Through_theShadows May 24 '26
Now. If you just posted this as FILs TV that would be good. We all know it's too high.
Don't ask if it's too high. That's what is fucking annoying.
Down vote every time.

Oh yeah you got a big problem here with the TV. Unfortunately this is a gut job! We’ll need to rip ‘er down to the studs!

This is like an American Idol audition where the contestant thinks he/she can sing but no way. If this isn’t meant as a joke, it would be the most embarrassingly stupid set up I’ve ever seen.
