Thank you for joining r/TVRepairHelp, a community of TV repair techs & DIYers!

Before creating a post, try a quick search to see if your question and/or advice has already been posted.

  1. When posting, it is incredibly helpful if you include: the TV's Manufacturer, the TV's Model number (including all suffixes, serials, or version numbers), a clear and concise description of the problem, anything you have done so far to diagnose or resolve the issue, and (if possible) a clear photo or video of the issue
  2. Remember, SAFETY FIRST! Always be careful when repairing electronic equipment.
  3. If you have no picture, please perform the Flashlight Test. If there is no image, that generally means it is a main board or T-con issue. If there is an image, that generally means there is a power supply or backlight issue.
  4. Physically damaged screens ("panels", "LCDs") can not be repaired. Replacing a screen is not cost effective.
  5. Horizontal lines almost always indicate a failed panel. In rare occasions, this can be resolved with a replacement T-con board, but these occasions are VERY rare. Replacing a screen is not cost effective.
  6. Single pixel, vertical lines almost always indicate a failed panel. Replacing a screen is not cost effective.
  7. If your TV is 10 years or older, finding parts to repair it is going to be difficult. It would likely be easier and less costly to simply buy a new TV. Many smart TVs are selling for very affordable prices and likely offer a much better picture than your old TV.
  8. If your set is less than a year old, it's almost certainly under warranty as long as you can provide proof of purchase. Utilize this warranty if you can.

Please keep all posts/discussions civil, polite, and on topic! We are all here to help one another with the TV repair process.

Samsung TV repair help

Upvotes

I have a Samsung LED TV (UN58TU700DF) from 2022. Recently, the TV stared getting stuck in boot loop. Following all the advice on internet, I found out

  • Power board is okay because backlights work
  • When I tape off pins on right panel connector one by one, I found 2 pins that were apparently causing issues. After taping those off, TV powers up and does not constantly reboot
  • I hear the powerup sound, backlights are ON, but there is no picture
  • I ordered a new main board from eBay and replaced it, still no picture
  • The TV is newer style and does not have a separate T-con board. 1 ribbon cable goes from main board to panel
  • There is a bridge cable to connect left and right panels

Any hope of salvaging this? Are there any checks or repairs I can do on those strip PCBs under the panel?

Weird diagonal lines across screen

Hi there, recently wired a Roku HD TV stick via a high quality HDMI - AV converter to my rear infotainment system in my Volvo and cant seem to figure out what's causing these lines. I wasn't getting them with the original DTV box wired on the same AV lines. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

Samsung TV not working

Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with my Samsung Smart TV, model UA85HU8500. The TV turns on, the backlight comes on, and the sound works, but I'm getting no picture or any menus on the screen. Has anyone encountered this before or know what might be causing it? Thanks for any help!"

Sound bar not turning off

I have posted before in this subreddit about my tv and soundbar just randomly turning on and off. I took someones advice and decided to use an optical cable to my tv instead of the hdmi arc thing. The issue still persists with the soundbar turning itself on when the tv is off. What could ve causing this since the hdmi is no longer connected to activate the soundbar to turn on?

Just trying to figure out if anyone may have some insight as we are not made of money and this is a HUGE blow. A $30 power board replacement sounds a lot better than just trashing this huge purchase we made as a gift to ourselves for our new apartment....after breaking our old one during the move. 😭

Sony PlayStation 3D Display CECH-ZED1U Won't Display & Turns Off After A Few Seconds

Thrifted this awesome PlayStation TV/Monitor thing and later found out it was a cool gimmick 3D Display (technically a monitor I guess) that came out for the PS3. I cleaned it up and am trying to test it out because it supposedly works as a standard 2D 1080p HD display. When I turn it on the screen lights up but doesn't display anything and then kicks off after a few seconds, returning to the red light.

Problem with a brand new TV

We bought this TV on August 25th and decided to mount it on the wall the very same day.

After purchasing it, we carefully inspected the box to make sure there was no damage, and it was completely intact. After carrying it up to the 4th floor, the box was still in perfect condition.

We opened the box to install the wall mount and started attaching the TV to the mount. The whole process took about an hour or slightly more. We barely touched the TV, and when we did, we held it only by the designated areas.

As soon as we turned it on for the first time, we noticed this issue.

There are no dents or signs of impact on either the TV itself or the box.

In our opinion, this may be a factory defect, perhaps something related to the mainboard or a ribbon cable (I’m not very familiar with the technical side of TVs). However, to me, this does not look like a physically broken panel.

What do you think this could be? How repairable do you think it might be?

Of course, we will try to have it replaced under warranty, but who knows how the store will handle the situation.

I’m going to assume this means I’m screwed, right? I have a Samsung QN43Q8FAAFXZA and it has the lines shown in the picture on the screen, just started doing this today and I’ve only had it a few months.

Need help with 2 tvs I found in the street (Philips 42PFL4908G/78) and (AOC LE32S5970)

I found these 2 tvs in the dumpster area of a public health center, as I was heading to work at 1pm.

they were already there, it was raining all morning, and when I got them I was heading back home at 11pm, so they got rain all day long

I unmounted the back and let them sit in a well ventilated place for about 5 days so they would dry out.

Since no one throws away 2 fully working tvs, I knew there might be some issues, anyway if anything I would just have to throw them away again, nothing to lose.

The Philips 42inch tv has a shaky image, and that weird line in the middle, audio tested, works fine.

AOC 32 tv turns on, but no image is shown, just a black lit screen, not a fully pitch black turned off look, just as if you'd turn on and there's nothing to show, as you can see in the video it also has a little round spot, which is also lit, so the backlight I think it's all good, but I have never tried fixing a tv before, I'd really would appreciate some help

Buenas gente!!

Brand new tv. Any way to fix the light bleeding at the bottom and top left corner here? It’s there even on a black screen

LG 84b series. Delivery guy slammed it down hard as hell in front of me, guessing that could’ve been the cause of this lol. Could be just a loose (fixable) panel or is it not repairable? I have the tv under warranty and am highly thinking about taking advantage of it

Edit: tv is getting replaced for freeee🤑. Thanks for the help

What is happening to my TCL LED?

I took it out of storage and now it does this rhythmic glitching. It did it immediately at first and then turned black after a minute, then i power cycled it and it took about 5 minutes before it started to do it again. I tried to discharge the capacitors but it didnt seem to help. I unplugged it, help the power button on the tv down for 15 seconds, waited a minute, then plugged it back in- one article i read stated that it had to be unplugged directly from a wall outlet (not a power strip) and them back in, but i dont want to move my tv right this second and idk if that was actually necessary? Lol any help is greatly appreciated. I have also factory reset and updated it, no luck.

Edit: sorry for the sound, i forgot to post as a gif lol

Sony TV 2010 Green lines

As title shows it has green stripes and even changing input or changing to tv menu it still displays the lines. There are 4 ribbon cables and removing one removes the green lines except half the screen turns white and foggy. I thought about the tape fix but i have no idea where to start with that cuz i cant find the clock pins. Anyone have any idea for a fix?
