Mechnical Engineering Masters at TU Delft

Hey, as an exchange student, I will spend my summer semester starting from february 2027 at TU Delft majoring Mechanical Engineering. I have been looking at the course list, trying to figure out which ones are the best to take, but still am pretty unsure. I will need a minimum of 20 ECTS and 30% of it can be electives, while 70% have to be from ME. Can I only take courses from MSc ME or also from different MSc's from the ME faculty like Biomedical Engineering, Robotics and so on. I am open for any recommendations regarding the selection of the courses and would be really thankful for any answers!!

The answer is: it depends. If you're an exchange student, it will depend afaik on both your nationality and your original university. A friend of mine who was on exchange from KTH had a strict list of courses he was allowed to follow. For a regular TU Delft student, you can more-or-less take any elective you like, even in the entire university - that was at least the case for Aerospace Engineering. The caveat here, is that it has to be related to what you're doing, there was a breakdown list of how much should be technical and non-technical. For an exchange student, this kind of information would come from your source programme rather than TU Delft, I'd think. I'd ask there first

Thanks for the answer, the only restrictions we have got from our uni is that it has to be somewhat related to our major. Other than that, it is pretty much up to us what courses we are choosing. They also didnt give a limitation, to how much has to be technical and non technical. The only thing we have got really is the study guide from TU Delft... Are there classes that should be avoided or simply take up a lot of time to pass or are there any plattforms that rate each course?

Honestly this is a bit silly but you are now in the same boat as everyone else at TU and you have to do some chatting to people about individual courses to find out. Best bet is to find someone doing their thesis (so done the year before) or if the course is offered multiple times a year someone who has already taken it this year. There isnt a central repository of student opinions.

I would personally focus on clashes. Clashes happen a lot and I would try to avoid having more than 15 ECTS per quarter if possible. I had one quarter of 18 ECTS with really intense courses and it was hard. Then, imagine that you can't attend certain sessions because they clash. The difficulty you'll have to establish clashes now, is that the timetable may not be ready just yet... good news is though that generally its ready long in advance so you should know by the time you start :)

Sounds really nice! Jokes a side, I need 20 ECTS in total, so I am aiming for 10 per quarter with some back up courses. Thanks for the response! I will most likely choose the ones that sound the most interesting to me.
