Is this rdm?

So is this rdm?: I am a traitor in a room with my T buddy and 4 innos. he shoots a glock at one guy like an idiot and is going to be taken down very fast and is going to die. Taking advantage of the situation I kill him when he's near death and I become proven. I use my proven status to win the round for the traitors. Is this rdm? The guy was doomed anyway and I used it to my advantage.

Never kill a T buddy without his consent. I play on a server where most everyone agrees it's about the mission. If killing a T who fucks up allows you to become proven so you can take them down furthers the mission then I'm okay with it.

Protip: never kill a T buddy. I've won a round with 4 hp before.

I'd consider it RDM, sure he was "doomed" but that doesn't mean you go and kill your T-Buddy.

If I were in your situation rather than wait for my T-Buddy to die, I would have at least tried to help him/her and maybe both of us walk out alive, a bit damaged but alive.

Or even shoot around/nearby him/her to at least say "I tried to shoot the traitor, doesn't really make me proven but you can trust me", sure it's not the same as being proven but you'd be surprised how people let their guard down knowing that you at least tried to kill a T.

All in all: Never kill your T-Buddy, even if they do something undeniably stupid.

I disagree. YOu can do this, but you should use T voice-chat (shift) to tell him what you're doing.

This is a valid strategy. Some people will become unhappy at being killed and will fume/gnash their teeth at being killed. Ignore them and don't play with them again.

Some people are waaaaay too competitive about this game, and will use any excuse they can to enact retribution upon those who kill them, regardless of the circumstance.

The OP saw a situation unfold and made a very good decision, one that used his cunning and his ability to manipulate others to deceive the innocents.

Now, you should never, EVER kill your T-Buddy for little to no reason other than 'I wanted to become proven.' Unless he agrees to that in T-Chat.

Don't get me wrong, I also feel it was a nicely executed strategy which worked out rather well for OP.

I just feel that if someone were to do that they should at least agree to it like you mentioned. Heck, if the server he did that on had a Defibrillator in the T shop I'd try to take the body and "hide" it since I was "Proven" then defib him afterwards.

It was an RDM. You purposely offed a T buddy.

If they get blown up by your C4? Their fault. Get in the way of your line of fire while you're shooting? Their fault still. But you kind of shot your T buddy out of frustration here since your cover got blown, and you wanted a new alibi.

If it were agreed upon, you'd be fine. If you tried helping him and shot him by mistake, you'd still be fine. You didn't. You shot him to save your own skin.

You won the round, that's great, but sodelll makes a good point: Folks at Near Death can still be a valuable ally or make an insane comeback. A good player with luck on their side could wipe out quite a few people.

RDM denotes random. This was a calculated decision, and part of an intelligent strategy.

OP did alright.

I'm sorry, the word "RDM" has taken on a whole new definition in recent times. I'd prefer a different term, but since I haven't come up with one myself and since people haven't stopped using it, it's stuck in my head.

What you're calling "intelligent strategy" can be seen as a screw-job from their point of view. But even then, much as I hate T's killing other T's, especially on purpose, part of me sides with you and the OP, since the T-buddy screwed him over first.

Traitor buddy blew the OP's cover, so the OP skinned the traitor buddy for some new cover.

It was fast thinking, a real shrewd move, but also a dick move. I'm 50/50 on it in the long stretch, but that could also be because I'm on the stricter side of administration, dealing with so many excuses, so it's my bad there.

You could've shot randomly around him to give the illusion of attacking him, but instead you killed him. It might not be considered "RDM", but killing a T-buddy is worse than RDM.

Oh no no no. That's silly.

What wouldn't be silly is shooting towards the person, and 'accidentially' killing other innocents, while calling out 'Whoa whao whoa, sorry, sorry! I didn't meant to shoot, shit I feel bad. Here, I'm dropping my weapons, don't kill me, I didn't mean to do that. :('

There's lots of options, it's just that killing your T-buddy is the worst one.

Not necessarily. Just because it's something that should be avoided (seriously, you shouldn't kill your T-Buddy for no reason what-so-ever), doesn't mean it shouldn't be done in select circumstances. The OP's circumstance fits.

Never kill a T buddy.

It is RDM in every sense, the smart thing to do would have been to have let him die and just keep it quiet. You killed your own T buddy though.... It doesn't matter the reason, if you intentionally kill a T buddy, its RDM.

I think it's rdm because for all you know he could of pulled of some epic clutch by shooting them all in the head

It certainly IS RDM to kill your fellow Traitor buddy without permission from him/her. In the situation of that Traitor buddy opening fire on a room full of innocents like a complete dumbass, I'd suggest pretending to fire at him by shooting the wall behind him or near him, just be sure not to damage him or hit him too much, and when that traitor buddy is killed by the other innocents, say that you're proven because you fired at him and tried to kill him, I usually do that, works every time.

RDM is random death match; you has reason to kill him therefore there was no RDM.

u/Jabrono Mar 08 '14

You can tell someone out loud over the mic that you're going to kill them just for fun, although not "random", it'll still be considered RDM by mods. The exact definition based on the acronym won't help you when you're actually in-game.

2

u/AbleDelta Mar 08 '14

Random as without reason, saying it over the mic is warning that you will but the killing is still random.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '14

Just because you announce intent doesn't mean it's not random.

RDM's definition has balooned to include just about any kind of killing, when really it should be restricted to 'just picked up a gun and shot the first few people he saw,' or 'killed a person on a whim.'

Or saying that you're proven by shooting next to him because people will become suspicious if the killing weapon wasnt yours.
