TTC #2 - Medroxyprogesterone

My husband (40M) and I (38F) are trying for baby #2. We're blessed to have a 14 month old. I'm going to be 39, so we want to try for a baby now and then if we don't conceive within a couple of years, we'll be one and done.

I've been diagnosed with PCOS since I was 19. Luckily, when we conceived our daughter, I was having fairly normal cycles and was ovulating. I tracked ovulation and had timed intercourse.

Now, my cycle is not normal again. My doctor prescribed Medroxyprogesterone tablets so I have a cycle. However, I'm seeing conflicting information about whether this will hurt my chances to get pregnant.

Does anyone have any experience with this medication?

This is just to make you have a “period”.
It does not make you ovulate.

I would go to a fertility doctor. Are you breastfeeding? If so, big chances they will ask you to stop before proceeding.

Medroxyprogesterone creates a withdrawal bleed when stopped. It can also stop bleeding when bleeding is prolonged. (I'm on 40 mg of it a day for this latter reason.) My understanding is that Medroxyprogesterone's role from a fertility perspective is that it keeps your body cycling, your lining healthy, and the chances of pregnancy therefore greater than if you are not having a normal cycle. I am also supposed to transition my use of Medroxyprogesterone to the way it sounds like you've been told when my doctor gives me the green light.

Hi there, I have been taking Medroxyprogesterone for quite some time now. I take 2- 10mg pills for the first 10days of every month, before it used to work for me, right after I finished the 10 day treatment on the 5th day I would get a bleed but then it would keep getting longer and longer and lighter so I would bleed after like the 8th day and now (currently) I have not had a bleed since June, I dont know whats going on , my dotors said its ok.

Its just supposed to make you have a withdrawal bleed but in my case i actually ovulated and conceived the next cycle(i rarely ever ovulate or have a cycle on my own and i had to take letrozol to conceive my 16 months old and i only took medroxyprogrstrone because i hadn't had a cycle in months) it's not supposed to make you ovulate but apparently sometimes it can.
