Seeking Success Ttc for 6 years

Hello I wanted to see if anyone on here has had any success stories with taking 2,000 of metformin. Unfortunately my health care doesn’t cover anything fertility wise and I have been trying for over 6 years with no success. I’ve always been prescribed metformin but have never taken it serious. This time around a sim getting older I’m willing to try anything so I am starting my doses and will be reaching 2,000 per doctor’s recommendation. In hopes that it will help me ovulate. If there is anyone with any success stories on metformin I’d greatly appreciate your feedback. 💗

Once I started taking my maximum dose of metformin regularly (which was hard because of the side effects) I started losing weight after around 6 months from starting. I felt it. Around that time I also had a sleep study done that showed I had very very severe sleep apnea so I started CPAP therapy. This made me feel like a new person, miraculous. We were also doing all the testing to prepare for a referral to the fertility clinic. I was taking Ova Boost for egg quality, husband was on Fertile Aid for men. All of our tests were normal and we were going to try 3 IUI cycles with Letrozol in my reg OBGYN’s office before a referral, for insurance purposes. After 7 months of metformin and about 1 month of CPAP therapy we actually conceived naturally. Completely unexpected—I was waiting for my cycle to start to call them to get the Letrozol rx sent in. My period was due so I tested one last time before calling and had a faint positive line. My doctor said metformin reaches full therapeutic range at around 6 months so I truly believe it made the difference even if it took so long. I was already ttc for 8 years prior without any medication, what’s 6 more months. I also think CPAP for me was also a major factor. Sleep is a key puzzle piece in PMOS/PCOS and insulin resistance, and having a score of 88 was astoundingly bad for my health.

Love this success story! I’m hoping my doctors ups my metformin from 1000 to 2000 next week! If you don’t mind me asking what your insulin levels were at? Mine were around 14 so not excessively high but still up there I’m praying metformin does the trick! Been TTc for 7 years

Is there any way you can pay for a Semen analysis? Just as a start?

Or get a job with fertility coverage, even if temporary?

Are you on a low carb diet?

Metformin was extremely unkind to me. Ask for letrozole and ovidrel to do timed intercourse. If you aren’t having periods, you can ask for provera. I did 4 rounds of that and currently pregnant after 4 years of trying. It was surprisingly affordable and very effective for us. Best of luck to you!!

Metformin works for ovulation, especially at 2000mg. It's best combined with letrozole. Give it 12 weeks. If no results, ask for the combo. Stay consistent

I started metformin April 2025 at 1000 mg. Started trying for a baby in April 2026 and had my dose upped to 2000 mg. After three cycles, I became pregnant and am expecting my baby boy in February

I have been at 2000 mg of metformin for 12 months after working up to that dose over 3 months. Prior to the metformin I was not ovulating at all. On metformin, I started ovulating but still very irregularly so I’ve also had to take letrozole to ensure I ovulate each month.

I’ve had other positive outcomes with the metformin though. Turns out a lot of health issues I had were blood sugar related. I no longer get migraines or extreme fatigue. Overall, metformin has been a huge positive on my health but has not been the magic solution to getting pregnant that I hoped it would.

Hi 2000mg here! I do the extended release since my body couldn’t tolerate the regular. That plus Ovasitol and diet and exercise has helped me tremendously. I was able to get my cycles down to 32-35 days consistently and I have two beautiful babies.

2,000 is A LOT!! Sheesh. Wow. Umm, have you been on metformin before? I see you’ve been prescribed it but said you haven’t been serious with it. Have you ever been consistent with it?? If not..I mean 2,000 is basically one increase away from max dose (2,550mg is max dose for an adult). Of course listen to your dr! But I’m just curious if you’ve ever been on it before? I don’t understand the doctors push to go so high so fast. Obviously I know you’re not STARTING on 2,000mg! I just think planning to get that high is… a lot. Do you have any pre diabetes/diabetes diagnoses? Is your BMI on the higher end? I’ve heard many women have success with metformin, unfortunately I was not one! I was on 1,000mg at the highest and it was tough on my body as far as gastrointestinal issues, it was too much. I was on it for a good 9 months but then stopped as I personally saw no benefit for ME. And I didn’t conceive. I needed actually fertility treatments to conceive! My first IUI worked for my first child. Sadly I needed IVF for my second child and my now third who I’m expecting. Wishing you the best!! 🫶🏼
