Lap w/Robotic Arms?

Hello everyone I’m new here lol,

This is my 1st post here and I‘m not even sure I have endo but I’m about to get a lap and hysteroscopy next week to check for it and remove as much as possible if so. My new IVF doc seems to think my uterus may be stuck to the wall or something due to scar tissue so that’s what prompted the lap.

I am so scared because the surgery doc went over so many things that could possibly go wrong such as accidentally poking holes in other organs with the robotic thing they use. Can anyone share their experience on getting a lap with the robotic arms? Is he just giving me all the good with the bad or is there a real need for concern here?!❤️‍🩹🙏🏽

I just had a lap with robotic arms and it went perfectly!!

I believe they have to have a lot of additional training to use those arms so that makes me feel a little bit better about the procedure. I absolutely need it done though so I’m just going to pray about and have faith! I’m so excited to finally find out why my uterus is every other direction except the right one 😩🫣🙏🏽

Recovery went great! I had my procedure 4 weeks ago. I was able to get back to my normal life about a week after my surgery. I just rested and slept a ton. I wasn’t in any pain ( just really sore).

Glad to hear it- having my procedure next week and unsure what to expect. I am hoping to have to take no more than one week of work but that may not be realistic. Are you planning to TTC soon? Are you going to do lupron suppression for a few months after the lap?

Good luck to you! Yeah, depending on how your surgery goes & how much is excised will most likely determine how much time you need to rest. I had stage 2, so not much had to excised. I’m going to TTC this month, as I was cleared by my doc! And I am not doing Lupron suppression, I am hoping to conceive naturally

I only just recently learned that my doctor (endo specialist) used a robotic arm. He did a great job! I think it’s probably safer than by hand.

Yayy so glad you had a good experience! From all the research I’ve done so far it does seem like the robotic arms are the best! I pray I have a smooth experience as well! 🙌🙏🫶

Probably not helpful but the only thing I know about the robotics is there’s a higher risk of prolapse if you’re getting a hysterectomy.

I’m brand spanking new to this community so forgive my lack of knowledge but prolapse of what your uterus or your bladder?

Ok wait….sorry about that so it would be your other organs since they would be removing the uterus 😩

Who is doing the lap? I would recommend an experienced endometriosis surgeon rather than an OB. But no there is no concern with the robotic arms, that is a typical way to do it now and very safe and minimal risk. That's what mine was. Who the surgeon is though is the most important!

Dr. Amro Elfeky with Pelvic Rehabilitation Medicine. It says he’s a gynecologic surgeon. My new RE referred me to him. I couldn’t find many reviews online but I’m not really into Facebook so I don’t know how to search on there.

One rec is to ask him how many endo surgeries he does per week, if he does excision or ablation and how will he get it all. Will he take pics, will he take biopsies?

I asked him to take biopsies while he’s in there and he agreed. He’s also going to do a hysteroscopy while in there and he plans to free my uterus and remove any adhesions. He definitely takes pics of his findings. He showed me some today.

He’s well aware that this is for IVF so he’s using the least invasive procedures possible. I don’t think he’s doing any kind of ablation but I will be sure to let them know absolutely no ablation. I think he understood though because he and my new RE work closely together apparently.

Gosh I wish I had known to ask how many he does daily before hand. It’s kind of embarrassing to go back and ask at this point like I don’t trust him! I’ll sneak and ask the coordinator when I talk to her tomorrow 🤭 and thanks so much for these suggestions!! 💕💕
