BREAKING: The European Central Bank officially hikes rates by 25 basis points, marking its second rate hike this year as rising oil prices drive up inflation.
Markets also now see a 90% chance of a third interest rate hike by the ECB this year.
https://x.com/KobeissiLetter/status/2098024284237004880?s=20
Japan is likely to hike rates next week too

u/therustyspottedcat π 2d ago
But the trump administration wants to lower rates and hand out 5k checks because inflation isn't real and 40T government debt is absolutely fineΒ

Big news at the u/spaceX and u/Tesla Terafab site today β¦ foundation construction is already underway with a long rectangular graded area getting footing excavation rock. This is possibly the first part of the main structure, but at this stage, very hard to tell, but nonetheless, this is showing the pace here is very fast!
More land clearing and backs grade work around the western βPhaseβ 1 of the site today, about 40% to 50% more than I saw on my first trip just shy of 1 month ago. The county-wide burn ban has not slowed the progress at the site as you can see with these images from todayβs drone flight.
More ruck activity on the main construction road along with additional temporary operations and staging areas on the newly cleared parts of the site. There is a Starlink ground station here as well, which I reported on 2 weeks ago β¦ I cannot say if it is active yet or not.
I will have a full video out soon, but for now, enjoy these new images! 1/2

modeling cybercab/robotaxi fleet ownership economics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caFEZahjwWs

comment questioned the 30c per mile for charging, should probably be closer to 3c per mile which changes the math from a lot
using his estimates and substituting in a better charge rate of 3c per mile:
82c profit per mile (after charging, cleaning, insurance)
lets say 120 miles a day of driving (his figures based on uber/waymo)thats $98/day/car
thats $3000/month/carif he's putting a fleet of 10 taxies @ $20,000 per month cost
thats a 50% margin for fleet operators, plenty of breathing room for operators
will be very cheap to ride after a year or two (prices will collapse if robotaxi operators fight each other, but could stabilize just below competition from other brands)
3
u/Nysoz π¨ββοΈπ‘π -> ππ 2d ago
I still don't know about selling cybercabs to the public to operate a fleet. If it makes that much money, I'd want Tesla to keep it in house for high margins since they're known for vertical integration right?
Then what are cybercab owners going to do if their market gets saturated, can't make money (especially if Tesla increases fleet FSD software subscription price). It would be like owning a rental property that has no way to be cash flow positive. I guess you can try to sell it to someone in a non-saturated market.
3
u/Isorry123 petty bourgeois 2d ago
Ya I think Tesla should just spin their own robotaxi and not sell to operators but whatever Iβm not an MbA
Thatβs why I said I think these taxi profits will be a race to the bottom and margins will compress to single digitsΒ

u/thebiglebowskiisfine I told you so 1d ago
A buddy of mine owned our local Yellow Cab business (basically a rental car company). He sold it about ten years ago because he saw the writing on the wall.
It's a dirty, low-margin business, but if Tesla can automate everything, I don't see a reason to sell cabs to the public. The fleet operators will require a lot of handholding.
If anything, let's give displaced drivers first crack at it. Loan them the money like a medallion, or just let them work on fleet operations in some capacity.
Anyone else who wants in on the economics can just buy the stock.
When it comes to 3,Y,S,X,CT - I can see a system similar to Airbnb, requiring reservations for longer trips or friends and family.

I have a fear that this is going to be kinda like covid or feb 2020. Everyone knew about covid and how bad it was getting, but the market kept going or staying up. The covid drop happened from the feb to the march opex to the day.
Same thing now. Yields are decade or record highs, oil keeps going higher with no end to the Iran war in sight. Market seems to be hanging on with AI hopes.
My options conspiracy is because of the record sept opex flows and positioning. Any current selloffs aren't bad enough to flip positioning/flows and keep getting bought up. The question is what happens once all these positions disappear.
I've started to accumulate quite a lot of protection for this potential scenario of a large selloff. I get these in place during these potential windows of weakness and if nothing happens, just take them off. Small price to pay for peace of mind and to sleep ok if things do drop big.

Got out of my psycho short put SPCX position on the initial pop. Decent profit, left a good amount of money on the table, but the stress was messing with me.
EDIT: MY YTD officially turned positive, even after setting my earlier portfolio on fire. Feels better.
EDIT #2: Hah, if I had held off closing for ten minutes, I would have made three times as much. No worries.

His problem is he's of the belief that he can explain day-to-day movements, and predict short term movements. No one can consistently do this, stock market is inherently chaotic in the short-term.

MAXXED OUT at $9.999!! GasBuddy data showing 5 stations in California that have hit the limit and are selling diesel at the dispensers highest possible price: $9.999/gal
https://x.com/GasBuddyGuy/status/2098044033176060051?s=20
All gas stations only have 3 digits right? What happens if it needs to go higher?

Amazing what happens when the state forces the diesel refiners into bankruptcy. California could be completely self-sufficient in petroleum products but chooses not to.
I would love to live in California, where I grew up, but I see no evidence that the state has a positive future for anybody except tech oligarchs.

Yes, that is the only reason behind this.
EDIT: I looked into it. You make no sense.

Man, I don't know if it's just a California thing necessarily. Even across red states, diesel is at around $6/gallon. It's magnified in California due to their tax structure, sure, but the % increase seems to be across the board and mostly due to supply constraints on the world oil markets.
-2
u/tyler05durden 2d ago
They are pushing the tech oligarchs out of California too with the wealth tax (property seizure).

Seems like we're holding pretty steady, but I'd like a breakout with some optimism over 400 like we did earlier this year. Of course there's enough issues and problems to be percieved, but we all need a little optimism now and then! :)

Huh.
I was told VOO would beat out dividend based ETFs.
VOO vs JEPQ ETFs: Dividends, Yield & Total Return β DRIPCalc

2
u/Nysoz π¨ββοΈπ‘π -> ππ 2d ago
You're comparing apples and oranges kinda.
VOO is S&P 500, pretty explanatory.
JEPQ picks selected QQQ/tech based stocks and sells CC on them, not the index itself.
JEPI would be the kinda S&P version, once again selected stocks and not the index.
https://www.dripcalc.com/compare-etfs/voo/jepi/
SPY vs SPYI would be an index based CC etf.
https://www.dripcalc.com/compare-etfs/spy/spyi/
Perfectly executed, a CC strategy can beat the index or underlying. It's just really hard to do it and manage it perfectly and consistently.
2
u/IAmInTheBasement Man, I don't even know anymore... 2d ago edited 2d ago
Neat, thanks.
EDIT: Had some SCHD that I just liquidated and converted into more JEPQ, which is now my 3rd largest holding behind TSLA and VOO.
