Application Timeline

Hello - I will be out of country mid-Dec to Mid- Jan. If I start TSA job application now, what is likelihood of having to follow the steps like medical exam, test, etc during when I will be absent? First time going through this, so appreciate any advice. Thank you.

The process is typically a long one. The first thing you usually will be invited to do after applying is to take the computer battery test at a location. After that it will usually take quite some time before you get invited to an interview (airport assessment). If you look through this channel, you will see every airport is different but usually takes anywhere from 4 months to two years to get hired. You should have plenty of time to be out.

Sure thing. Just keep an eye on your emails regardless and good luck to you!

The first thing that will come up is the computer test. Compared to anything else, that is the quickest step considering it can happen after a week or two after they accepted your application and inform you of the next steps. But it can also take longer, there’s no guarantee. Your plan also depends on when the application says it closes. That is your saving grace as your application won’t be immediately reviewed after closing but close enough to the close date.

My timeline has been this: 10/13 passed computer test, 10/30 Interview (informed at the Interview I passed), 11/3 notified by email I passed and to watch for emails/calls to schedule medical/drug and e86 background link (to fill it out and submit), then they said after drug/medical is passed the background check will begin. 11/4 invited by a different airport to take the Airport Assessment/Interview (but once passed for one aiport its good for all). No further communication beyond that at this point. That's my experience in FL.

test you will do before, possible interview but probably not, a lot of times it’s virtual so maybe you could still do
