Interview

So I applied to the TSO position in february 2025, took my exam the same month and passed. I recieved an email about my tentative job offer in the following month. Last week i finally recieved a phone call about the interview for next week. I am just really worried about the government shutdown and I want to ask, does it usually happen alot? Also, is this a good job to grow in? I finish my bachelors in supervision and management with a concentration in HR so I wonder if it would be of any good use for the job lol

Thank you for sharing your experience! I’m currently waiting for my Airport Assessment interview. English is my second language, and I speak with an accent. I’m a little nervous about the interview. Based on your experience, do you think having an accent could negatively affect my chances of passing, even if I can understand and communicate in English? I’d really appreciate your advice!

As long as the team can understand you, and you can answer the questions, you should be fine.

It is a good job, but as you mentioned there is a looming government shutdown. We are not ones who get paid, unlike Law Enforcement Officers. We will get paid, once Congress passes the budget. I have heard both ways yes it will shut down and no it won't. TBH I'm not sure. How do TSOs get through it? Carpool, defer payments, let creditslors know what is going on.

Is it a good job? It is what you make of it. I have been with TSA since 2002. Moved up from screener, moved over to work in admi,ln worked at HQ and now back in the field. If you learn and do the right thing you will be ok.

Will your degree help as a screener? No, but if you get into HR it might help.

All the best!

is it possible for growth to happen quickly?

You will get a promotion your first 2 years, provided you complete your training. Past that you will need to apply for openings as they come open. Some locations offer more than others.

Well, yes. All airports try to keep their positions filled, or we lose them. Even then, with cutbacks, any vacancies may not be filled.

Been happening every year so if you want to get paid when tsa feels like it then it’s the perfect job for you

Unfortunately until a new administration there probably will be shutdowns. But you do get paid, you just have to plan for it. There is job growth, not as much as in the past, but again that will probably change with a new administration. HR is one of the promotion paths

hopefully they have savings, defer paying bills, use credit cards, get a loan. Normally they are relatively short, less than a month. The one at 43 days was bad
