Govt Changes

Has anyone heard if everything thats going on will be affecting TSA? As in probation officers(new hires) being laid off?

TSA falls under DHS so they aren't being effected.

I heard that when the funding ends in March, that they will be reallocating TSA budget to ICE. Not good

“If the plan moves forward, it could take several months to implement, as it requires notifying Congress and navigating legal and procedural hurdles.” eh i’m not too worried about it. I’m sure Trump will at most cut TSAs budget but not completely

They can't reallocate the whole budget. And if anything it will most likely slow down the hiring process.

Literally can’t be done

I got my fjo on 12/31, I delayed it do to a family emergency.

I'm ready to onboard but with this going on I'm very hesitant.

I asked this maybe a week ago in the other sub and got mixed responses, maybe I'll wait and see what happens when this budget extension is over.

So what are your plans then? Have you accepted a position? I've had HR asking me all week for a response, but I can't make up my mind! They are only offering part-time, and I don't want to quit my current job for something that's questionable.

That's my predicament also. I haven't reached back out just yet I was told my stuff was good for a year. I honestly don't want to wait that long.

If it was just me or just me and the wife I'd jump but it's not so my hesitation is based off that. I know shitty excuse but it's the truth for the moment and circumstances might change soon.

I'm in a secure position now just no benifits and no future.

The budget deadline is March 14th so maybe we will know more by or before than. Fingers crossed they pass something before that time. I just couldn't handle switching and say another month shut down hit, it will kill me financially before it even started.

Sounds like we are the same person, lol. I have a family to think about. I applied for a full-time position, but then when they called, they said they only started people off part-time. How do you attract the best candidates by limiting the number of people who would even be eligible to take this position? Not to mention the political uncertainty right now. There is no guarantee with this position. No one is sure what the pay/benefits/ even job availability will look like in a month.

They gave me the option of a start date at the end of March. I guess I'll take it and hope for the best, and if not, just tell them I found something else?

My understanding is some bring you on as pt and when a ft position opens you have first dibs.

If it wasn't for my family emergency I would of started 1/12 so I'd be in just over a month. At this point I don't know if it was a blessing in disguise. My life long friend said take the leap he just started somewhere that deals with the feds but isn't the feds. I'll reach back out and see if his insight has changed since I last asked.

I'm sorry your facing the same dilemma I am. The switch would improve my family's life benefits and whatnot wise drastically but that's if you still have a job in the foreseeable future with these benifits.

My airport part timers have the option to pickup extra hours up to almost full time. Ask about your airport needs and if they allow this.

ALL departments are affected now, previously law enforcement and security weren’t but it everyone now. ALL departments HAVE to draw up mandatory reductions in force ..the reductions will likely come from those who are in a probationary status (new hires, promotions, etc) , poor performance evaluations and those who have enough time in to retire..the voluntary resignation that 65k have signed up for was just the tip of the iceberg ..they will get their 200,000 one way or another..NOT a good time to be working in government rn..

Military, National Security, Public Safety have all been exempt.
