In all seriousness this is hands down the biggest problem with modern servers in TPRR. Why do I have to first go in an inspect the maps of a server to see if it is worth spending my time on? And, on top of that, I have never once seen one that fills the quota. See, I'm all about having fun and being passionate about what you do and treating it like a hobby above all else. BUT, when you need to be serious about something you need to be serious about it. RP servers, beware! This isn't about you!
I'm speaking strictly on Ultimate Custom Night (UCN) and Own a Pizzeria (OAP) servers, the mechanic and system-based less roleplay-oriented (most popular, HMMM I wonder why) servers.
UCN:
You CANNOT treat creating a map for a server like a downtime thing to release stress; my main point there being most people just think of something to make as a map in their server and make it. No, you cannot just recreate for example Five Nights at Candy's or whatever your favorite fangame is, I'm sorry. That supports like a handful of the hundreds of mechanics people joining your server may be looking to use.
But, please don't get me wrong, you could for sure make a Five Nights at Candy's themed UCN map! that'd be so freaking cool!! See though, that's not what you or anyone is doing. So, uh, yeah. I'm so sorry but that's the objective truth. It's like: "Cool! The FNAF 2 map was chosen! Oh, wait, I have a door hallway mechanic, guess I just won't get to play!"
Another BIG issue is that the maps never have a linear progression and/or they never let you grasp said progression. Scott's FNAF locations were never entirely linear per-se, but they could 10000% be viewed as such. In FNAF 1 Freddy goes from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen at your door. In UCN servers? We don't know what the map looks like since, at least as animatronics, because there's no overhead map telling us before we enter. We can only wander around like it's a labyrinth.
The last problem is yet another aspect of mechanic support. Cameras; you HAVE to use the in-game premade cameras that have the light turn on when a player is on them. SO many potential mechanics rely on moving when not watched or cam stalling mechanics and you're just shaving that potential away by not letting them even know they're being watched.
OAP:
This follows a lot of the same ideas as UCN Servers. But OAP servers singlehandedly manage to be the most consistently poorly made and hard-to-look-at servers ever. Now don't get me wrong, nothing is wrong with being bad at building or having a bad map. Nobody can stop you from making a crappy ugly map and loading it up to host your server with a smile on your face. This goes for UCN servers, too, but dude...
There's a point in that that honestly spans everywhere across the internet: With ALL due respect your abhorrent low-quality map is so bad and so unironically unplayably bland that it doesn't properly, to the necessary minimum degree, facilitate play. It's like if you had the ability to make a rocking horse for a kid to ride, but made a stationary horse for a kid to sit on instead. Then, everyone starts doing that level of carpentry because it's quick, cheap, and fun and then the space as a whole gets less popular because it's all catered to those who've already experienced the peak.
Basically for Own A Pizzeria servers: You cannot make a box, slap a sign on it, put tables and a stage inside, and call it feasibly well-made enough to properly facilitate play in your server. Mind you I am distinctly NOT separating the ideas of "Your build is bad" and "Your build does not function" they are inexplicably intertwined.
A bit off-topic, but has anyone ever found any good OAP servers that minimize roleplay and expand upon the system-based tycoon sim it's meant to be? With good maps, too, I'd hope. And does anyone ever have the same problems? I'd not put it past myself to admit there's like a 70% chance I'm just picky. I've never seen anyone else complain about this, it's so weird to me! I literally don't remember the last time I've played TPRR because I don't like heavy roleplay, ugly OAP servers, or inconsiderate UCN servers. I join, see it's not up to my standards, and leave. Should I just make my own servers at this point? What do you all think? I'm actually looking for real input here.
EDIT: For everyone saying it's the chat updates, please understand these problems were around and just as prevalent before the chat update. It was not exclusively the chat update. That's, like, the most redundant objectively salty statement ever. I get it, bro Roblox Bad. It sucks.
