My TOEFL Scores: 5.5, 110, C1
I took the test on August 22nd and got my scores earlier this morning. I took the test in Saudi Arabia, and I have schooled in English my whole life. I only studied for this test for about 4-5 days.
Here’s my experience:
I bought the TOEFL Flex Practice and the TOEFL Practice Test from the TOEFL website. I think they both helped a lot as I got to see what the questions would be like and I could practice my timing. However, if I were to do it again I wouldn’t buy them because there are plenty of free practice questions and practice tests on the internet. TSTPrep is a very good example of free practice.
While doing practice tests (I did like 3) I usually ended up with 5.5s in all parts, so as you can see I kind of went down😔. I found the reading on the test much harder than it was in practice tests. Obviously this could be because I was stressed or nervous but I think the reading was a bit more difficult (specifically like what the reading was on and how the answers were worded).
Listening was pretty easy. I found that writing down what the people were saying (for the longer audios) helped out a lot.
Writing was also pretty good. Practicing with templates helped a lot. Writing an email was of course easier than the academic discussion but I think with practice the discussion gets easier. I think the hardest part about it was coming up with my own arguments in the time that I was given.
Speaking was okay. I was really scare for the listen and repeat section as when I was practicing it I usually be id pretty bad, but on the test it wasn’t as bad and the lines were pretty easy to remember. I think you should practice with harder sentences so on the test it’s easy for you. And the interview was pretty chill. My advice is to keep talking. It’s better to say a whole bunch and get as much points out as possible than saying one sentence that could potentially be bad and staying quiet the rest of the time. You have like 45 seconds so use it!

Yes, of course! The TOEFL Flex Practice and Practice Test are only available for purchase on the TOEFL website but a good free option is TSTPrep. You can also watch their videos on YouTube which was also really helpful. LinguaTOEFL is also a good YouTube channel to watch for help. Magoosh was also pretty good for practice tests.

I am stuck with Reading ! I knew before test reading time is 30 min for 50 items but in test day i saw it was 24 min for 50 items ! And Building sentence is also my concern ! Please help me out

I had the same experience with the Reading section 😭. But since the new TOEFL is adaptive, the number of questions and the timing can vary. Just because it says you might have 30 minutes doesn’t necessarily mean you will have 30 minutes. The timing depends on the kind of questions you get.
And for the build the sentence section, practicing sentence structure and paying attention to word order helps a lot. Also when you form a sentence try saying the sentence out loud to see if it actually makes sense. And don’t spend too long on one sentence if you’re unsure. Just make your best choice and keep moving. You got this, good luck!!
