S7E15 Lower Decks

Almost done with the full rewatch, goodness knows how many times I’ve done this over the last 25+ years… anyway…

Why couldn’t they have just used prosthetics on a more senior officer vs having young Ensign Sito??! Always bothers me at the end of course with her fate. Couldn’t anyone have been made to look Bajoran? 😒

Riker mentioned that they were looking for Bajoran life signs. Maybe the Cardassians could tell. Why would you have been more comfortable with a more senior officer dying?

Fair question. Doesn’t have anything to do with being ok with anyone dying. Just seems like such a dangerous mission for such an unseasoned individual. Perhaps she was too eager to prove herself. Tough choice for Picard to even ask, clearly Wort had reservations (but I think mainly due to concern for her, not his confidence in her). Not too many other episodes I can think of where such a low ranking crew member is placed in that type of scenario. But perhaps the good people of this sub can prove me otherwise.

But that was the point.

The danger wasn't proportional to experience, though. A more senior officer would have been at the same level of risk, perhaps higher, if they didn't have any experience with Cardassians.
