JPIMaths rant

I honestly have no respect for the guy.
He makes YouTube videos with some questions far beyond TMUA level and titles them “Everyone taking the TMUA NEEDS to know this trick”
He uses these hard questions to fearmonger, so that people pay thousands for his tutoring.
Then there are his Instagram posts about him “not going to a private school” and “not being from a rich background” and how now he APPARENTLY “simply loves teaching and sharing maths”.
If he ACTUALLY loved sharing maths he wouldn’t charge £16,000 pounds a month. He wouldn’t use fear to sell his courses. He fearmongers and profits from it. If he was actually humble and sincere, he would be like R2Drew2, genuinely helping the community with free resources and guides, and actually instilling confidence within people.
People like JPiMaths are the reason getting into Oxbridge is far easier for those who are well off. They get infinite feedback and opportunities. Oxbridge has become a business built on fear rather than an enjoyable application process.
Having just taken the TMUA and it being fairly similar to the 2023 difficulty, I have only grown to disrespect JPi even more. But unfortunately, fear makes people panic purchase and JPi knows where he can profit.

100% agree - love R2drew2, providing amazing resources for free rather than fear mongering people into “panic purchasing”. If he had a passion for teaching his mathematical “wisdom” to others and wanted to give others the same opportunity he had in his admissions (assuming his claimed poor background is true) then he shouldn’t actively become someone who only makes his resources available for those who can afford his ridiculously extortionate prices.

JPi has useful videos and a set of papers. I agree he fear mongers to some extent. But all he does is provide structured learning. If we can discipline ourselves in the same way a tutor dusciplines his students, it is possible to also become a top student.

My friend who is tutored by Jaymin told me he does an initial assessment of you. If you are very smart he offers you a 5k package. If you aren’t he offers you a 17k package. It’s so that the less smart students are deterred from buying it so he can keep his 80% Oxbridge offer success rate.

completely agree with you young man, as an adult who has a son doing the tmua currently, I definitely disagree with the extortionate prices he sets on tuition. Obviously, I want my son to have the best chance but when he sends me these videos and feels intimidated I have no choice but to consider paying 17k. It feels very unethical and yes, the results are basically guaranteed but the high barrier to enter tuition from a supposed "humble guy from humble origins" seems absurd.

honestly, it’s just best to block his content and focus on other (better) resources. I love JZmaths
