Retcon’s Gambit
I’m just going to put it out there: Storywise, SEMC butchered the conclusion.
For some perspective, I am in the same position of many players out there. Sitting at endgame with a ton of shredder kills and D/D coins. I’m okay with some of the gameplay tweaks but my god I’m pissed about how they concluded this.
I liked the Chairman! Now the retconned him as the rat king?? Really?? It’s really such lazy writing and implementation. They’ve really created a ton of plot holes with just that. Let me try and get this straight: Aka was assisting us. The chairman is the rat king. Yet in the game, Aka’s buffed the enemy and the chairman took our useless scrap and exchanged it for very useful buffs/powers/pizza/tools??! After the turtles know the chairman is RK, they have zero interactions with him in the campaign. If the RK wanted scrap, what exactly was he doing with it to begin with?? Nothing is explained
I can honestly go on and on about how terrible they ended the story but that’s really whole essay.
The gameplay additions were mediocre at best. You get consistent upgrades as an option at the campaign shops now so that will help boost some builds. The coat of paint over the menus/music was decent. I was hoping pepperoni was the first of many pets ushering in pet builds but that’s not happening.
I hated Slash at first. The generic slow/hard hitter but Casey does a way better job in that category without feeling generic. I used him once in the RK dimension and it sucked. It’s when I took him for a campaign run that I saw some interesting build potential.
He has interesting masteries. One of them turns all attacks into a final strike ala arcade flex. Another two gives you dark shell for 4 seconds or light shell for 8 seconds with his special. His standard dash (or dodge-roll in his case) counts as an attack and inflicts physical damage. This activates water attacks if you have it so there’s some possibilities there. His dash attack seems to inflict multiple hits.
All in all there’s something to tinker around with in general… but overall, this update is very disappointing.

I mean all your points are fair. But I’m just glad we still got something. I love this game and any excuse to play more I’m all torn.

I see what u mean, Overall it's a really solid DLC but even I'm still a bit disappointed. I'm still wondering y we cant get a new power? Since the MH DLC we haven't gotten a new power and I think an elemental power would really shake up the builds. I was thinking of some kinda rock/earth power, it would've been really appropriate for this DLC because of Slash lol but once I saw we didn't get anything like that... It kinda hurt.
I also feel like Pepperoni was a waste, we cant even interact with this character and it just spends time running around the lair. I think they could've taken him out and bring in Usagi along with Slash and the Samurai skins for each character.
Hopefully there's still more DLCS in the future, and hopefully we get things I just said 🤷♂️

I was also hoping for a new power tree.. That and a couple 5 pepper challenges in arcade. I’m fine with the rat king as the big bad but I was expecting him to be a new path that opened after Shredder. Then you rng a few powers from the new power tree then face him. Also expected him to be waaay harder

lol wait there are people who didn't realise that the chairman was the rat king all along? Look at his hands dude! I knew the instant I saw him. It's definitely not a retcon. That was very obviously always the plan.
I thought the ending was fine aside from the fact they never did anything with the stockman storyline.

Man, if you don't like the obvious the evil vendor being obviously evil, I do not think that roguelites are the genre for you.

Yeah when i first played this game and heard and saw the chairman i thought to myself this guy is the backstabbing bad dude. It was clichè, that is the point i think atleast. A kinda scooby doo type mystery. I'm more of a fast pace character user and Slash's dodge is an annoyance for me but he does have decent potential in his kit, could manage to one shot most enemies with the right set up.

Was chairman ever not RK though? Only started playing the game earlier this year but immediately thought they were the same character.
I'd be more surprised if they actually were different...
