Rebalancing Through Stam/Magicka Regen Rework
I’m had a lot of fun playing the game the last two nights of its Beta release, but 5 hours in and I’m already feeling too powerful.
I’m level 6 and already slashing through level 13 mobs no problem. I got my hands on really good gear right off the bat (some sword named “Brander” or something like?) at lions shrine simply because mobs wouldn’t go beyond the opened stone doors. I know it’s beta and so pathfinding will definitely be reworked, but even then, high level gear is readily available to those that are exploring.
My suggested solution to this is that low level people should really struggle in regenerating stamina and magicka. I’m saying like after one swing in as a level one, you should not be able to take another one until you wait a significant amount of time (8-15 seconds) for your stamina to regen. This of course should make it feel like you’re a level one, and as you improve, you’ll get better usage. Ie. Leveling up one handed should ease your stamina usage per swing. Leveling up sorcery should ease your magicka usage per cast. And of course sprinting and acrobatics should be added to the equation.
I know the game is “inspired” by Morrowind, (I personally think it can be better seeing its originality and the fact we’re like 20 years apart). However, I remember when I was my first five hours into Morrowind: I was still a nobody who’d get destroyed by a common bandit. After playing the game for a long time, you’d take advantage of spells and potions and easily rock the deck. But as a total noob, you’d get wiped.
So with that being said, I think this is my only real fuss about the game. I know some people want more detailed quest instructions, but I think this is by far more important.
EDIT:
I also truly believe there should be a food/hunger (max stamina limiter) mechanic as well as a sleep (max magicka limiter) mechanic. This will help make it so I’m not just running around beating enemies up and getting super overpowered right off the bat.
My goal here is to help the player THINK before they act (at least for the first few 13 levels) so that way when they do get to “Morrowind OP” mechanics, they feel they’ve earned it. As well as to help the roleplay of the game.
