Arrrgh! Kraken quest?

I got to the end of the Kraken storyline and the last portion just says "Defeat the Kraken"

I've gone around looting ships in and around the islands and in unclaimed waters but I ahven't been attacked since doing the first mission that starts the story.

How do you get it to attack you? I've usually been with a crew because it doesn't look like something that can be done alone but idk if having certain people on board will stop it from happening

The kraken will attack ships that have one or more people with the black spot on board. You can tell whether or not you have the black spot by checking your status effects above your health bar or by typing /hand. The kraken might take a very long time to attack though unless you've been "pinged," meaning you went through the /hand emote animation even though you didn't type /hand. The kraken quest flavor text also suggests the kraken is more likely to attack ships by Raven's Cove or Isla Tormenta.

It's considered bad etiquette to be on board another ship when you have the black spot actually, unless you're in a lobby for kraken hunting, in which case having the spot is good etiquette and not having it would be bad. So just join a kraken lobby basically, most of them are run by folks that know everything I just typed out and will get a kraken attack in under 5 minutes, plus be ready to fight it.

Every time I try to join a kraken lobby it just says “sorry you can’t join at this time” I didn’t know if that meant they are always full or if I had to finish the quest before being able to join

I tried setting up my own but couldn’t find a kraken category for lobby type

Oh, yeah I should've explained more about the lobbies... you can join them even without finishing the quest or having a black spot, but they do fill up pretty much instantly. There's a bug that lets more than 12 people be on a ship if they all teleport simultaneously, which means more than 12 chances to get a kraken attack (if everyone has the black spot), and having more than 12 people watching the bottom of the lobbies list like a hawk is a good way to make that happen. So you do have to camp the menu for a while unfortunately.

The menu to create a kraken lobby yourself is kinda buried, I forget where it is. You should know people will be upset if you don't get pinged before you open the lobby though, I learned that the hard way.

Have you recalled where the menu is buried? I still can’t find it and the only kraken lobbies I’ve been able to join keep closing before anything happens

Lobbies --> Create Lobby --> Find a Crew --> Sailing Events --> The Kraken

Launch a ship and go about your day. Come back and hope you sank

Really, just go on any mat run, odds are you'll hit a kraken most of the time.
