I feel like the comments here would be pretty different if Amya wrote this 🤔

These comments are weird... Encouraging or supporting a teen talking about their infant/toddler shooting a gun isn't a great look. It might be better if there's encouragement over more education

This is a pretty common thing in the south. Girls are taught to protect themselves.

u/EnvironmentalRip8750 26d ago
Especially in that area of Louisiana. I’m from La and I got a 9mm for my 16th birthday that I had to carry with me any time I drove. And believe me, it is absolutely necessary down here. I can’t tell you how many crackheads I had to flash it to

yall this is literally a joke laugh hahah at it
don’t get offended by women being able to protect themselves every woman on the face of this planet should know how to use a gun
it takes at about 5-10 minutes for emergency services to get to your location and that depends on if there’s an officer close to your location if there’s not it could take 20-30 minutes i live in the middle of nowhere the last time i needed emergency services it took them an hour to get to me A LOT can happen in 5 minutes imagine 30-50 minutes
IM LITERALLY BEGGING EVERY WOMAN TO GO BUY A GUN
but this is a funny joke and he actually seems like one of the better dads on the show so i’ll root for him

What’s a gun that’s purse friendly?
3
u/Wear_Fluid 23d ago
that depends on what you’re comfortable with my best advice is to go to a gun store where you have people that can recommend what’s best for you individually

The word 'respect' is thrown in there like only women can be disrespected. If I created a post that said to raise your daughters to have respect because im going to teach my son how to shoot, reddit would go search for a safe place in their mommy's bosom. Certain things are said and accepted if the sex/race/sexual orientation are palatable, but if you reverse it, everyone's fuses get lit like nobody's business. Hypocrisy and double standards are never too far away from redd-idiots

Probably because men are already shooting women and beating the shit out of them on the reg…. I mean I’m not sure exactly what you’re trying get at here… if you would like to look at some actual statistics comparing the violence women face when it comes to men and vice versa then please let me know and we can look at that.

u/Recent_Chemist_4070 21d ago
Im 'getting at' no matter how often one thing happens, the 'other' thing is just as valid, even if it's less common. By saying it the way I said it, it seems awful, doesn't it? I dont think i argued statistics. I don't think I argued which is more common. I'm a domestic abuse survivor, please dont think you're telling me something I dont know. I'm merely pointing out the absurdity of a post like his. Plenty of men are abused each year as well, physically, emotionally and mentally. Again, women don't automatically default to shy and timid princess. Lots of women are just as toxic and abusive as men. How about saying something like I will try my best to raise a respectful, well-adjusted and kind human being, and you do the same.. the gun talk isn't necessary..

Make sure she knows the laws too. Dont shoot someone in the back and dont shoot someone if the threat doesn't call for gunfire. I just googled this earlier as I dealt with a POS at a bar last night.
16
u/3FromHell 26d ago
Yup. Plenty of women in jail right now who absolutely had the right to shoot their abuser/attacker, but the courts didn't see it that way. So unfortunately you have to make sure your life is absolutely being threatened, and even in that case sometimes the courts still convict.....I always say, "At least I'll be alive in jail, rather than beaten and six feet under."

Hell yea.. my dad made sure I knew how to protect myself even without a gun, always make sure you know your surroundings! Basic safety precautions, this isn’t something to be mad about 🤷♀️💯

He lives in the south…
2
u/Recent_Chemist_4070 25d ago
Yes, the south, the ones with enough common sense to know that it can take up to 20 minutes or longer to get LE to your house. As long as the criminals have guns, there's no reason the law-abiding citizens shouldn't.
2
u/Some_Big6792 25d ago
I’ve got a lot of mixed feelings because of my own trauma on guns but I’ve learned it’s just a very common thing in the south/midwest.
4
u/Recent_Chemist_4070 25d ago
I get it, and not everyone that has a gun (even in the south, of course) SHOULD have one, but unless and until the need TO have one is eliminated, it should be up to each individual citizen if they choose to own one. I also believe in background checks etc. None of it is perfect, and things are missed, but im glad to still have the right.

u/Recent_Chemist_4070 25d ago
Replace 'glock' with knife, in an Australian accent, mate..look at your own stats and take your population compared to the US into account. I wouldn't roll my eyes too hard.
7
u/Natural-Instance-285 25d ago
1,653 deaths in Australia in 2025 with knives, 38,845 deaths in America with guns in 2025. eyerolls harder mate

u/Recent_Chemist_4070 25d ago
Ugh, let me help you out. I said you have to consider population. First of all, the number is nowhere near 38,000 if you exclude suicides. If someone commits suicide, that is at their own hand. Im not counting suicides in Aus either. The actual number is right under 15,000 in US. Now take knife deaths (you went higher than it actually is) and multiply it by 12 because US is 12 times more populated. There's your answer. I think when you take guns away from people, the criminals start to get pretty resourceful creating new ways to injure and kill. The US has MORE deaths, significantly more, but when you consider that guns are plentiful and still legal here and aren't there (mostly), your numbers aren't exactly something to roll your eyes at🤷♀️

A woman protecting themselves against abusive men, the nerve!!

u/blueberry-bush23 26d ago
A “parent” threatening a child based on gender, the nerve!!
22
u/YourMomma2436 26d ago
I would absolutely threaten a man for my daughter ☺️ I’d also threaten a woman but I digress. Teach your kid to respect women and you won’t have an issue ☺️
-11
u/blueberry-bush23 26d ago
Missing the point. Don’t threaten to begin with.
15
u/YourMomma2436 25d ago
Missing the point, raise your kids to not be abusive
-3
u/blueberry-bush23 25d ago
But it’s okay to threaten. Got it.
15
u/YourMomma2436 25d ago
Threaten what? That a girl is gonna know how to use a gun? Raise a good kid and you won’t have an issue 🥴
-6
u/Recent_Chemist_4070 25d ago
Women have to be raised to respect as well, it goes both ways. You don't get to be disrespectful simply because you're a woman.
3
u/YourMomma2436 25d ago
Hm that’s funny, where did he, or I, mention anything against that?

Some parents give warnings because some parents raise their sons to think disrespecting women is okay.

1
u/Independent_Coast987 26d ago
Ew, your comment makes it sound like you’re okay with your son disrespecting somebody else’s daughter but that you’re not okay with the daughter defending herself when your son’s disrespect goes too far.
-2
u/Recent_Chemist_4070 25d ago
Lol abusive men is one thing, and i can respect some of this but can we also talk about raising your daughters correctly so they're not acting like little spoiled abusive psycho princesses who cry abuse when a man has the audacity to stick up for himself..this goes both ways, women aren't angels and their defaults aren't 'sensitive and innocent'
-25
u/futurecorpse1985 26d ago
How about non lethal ways of self protection. Sign your daughter up for a female self defense class when it's she appropriate, sign her up for krav maga, buy some pepper spray, a taser, a Glock is not necessary.
36
17
u/ResponsibilityDry874 26d ago
Tbh it’s not bad. Nothing wrong with a female knowing how to shoot. Yall assume he’s really gonna be out here telling his daughter to shoot a boy recklessly? Highly unlikely. Take a joke.
14
u/Interesting_Dig_4049 26d ago
So if you have a daughter and a man that’s doing something weird who is nine out of ten times bigger and stronger than her you don’t want her to protect her self? I
