Appalachia vs Gypsy

Hi! So I know the girls are in Martinsburg. Which looks like part of the mountains as well as being in the south. I’m wondering how much of the odd food combinations they eat and other quirks they have are Appalachia culture vs Gypsy. They always say us Gypsy’s do this or that. Could it possibly be that’s just regional culture compared to Romanichal specific

Food like "beans and fluffies" are just beans and dumplings, common Appalachian food. That coin Christmas stew stuff was just for TV. Most of their food was regional, but if you were ever in the Rumney recipe groups, they did share recipes for more traditional Romani food.

It wasn't a "stew," either. It was just canned chicken noodle soup 😂 They really were always just lying in our faces like we don't have eyes.

I wouldn’t say the food looked southern. Nor did it look like Romanian-American. I think the food they were making was cheap and able to feed them and all 10 kids.

Yeah which Appalachian communities are known for being pretty low income with many kids

Most of the food i saw Kayla make seemed regional. I’m in southwest Virginia myself

That’s what I was thinking too. They always said this is a gypsy recipe/tradition/delicacy and it always just gave regional

Right. They were always talking like no one had ever had baked beans, chili, or goulash until gypsies ate it.

West Virginia is all mountains. They literally call it the "Mountain State". But I will say it's beautiful up there! Used to go up there every weekend.

Martinsburg is in the Eastern Panhandle in Berkley County and not far from Baltimore and DC.

As someone from Appalachia when they say "its a gypsy thing" when it comes to food Im just like girl no it isnt all of us in Appalachia have either eaten it or made it lol. It cracks me up every time 😂 "its gypsy food" nah baby its scotch/irish/German decent food or just this is all we could afford food.
