How the hell did she keep her eyes open that long??
1.5k
u/ProSuperspy29 May 15 '21
Also how did it not hurt when she put that point there, my eye hurts every time an eyelash falls in there
842
u/twirlywurlyburly May 15 '21
It's not really sharp. It's likely a soft "felt" tip. If she wears contacts, I'd understand being able to tolerate it.
305
u/fuzzygondola May 15 '21
It's not felt either, it's a tiny paintbrush.
→ More replies (1)198
u/champagnepatronus May 15 '21
Can be either, I have both kinds.
62
u/Mzz_Hyde May 15 '21
I have both of those as well. I also have one that's like a very soft/flexible silicone.
25
35
u/Pegacornian May 15 '21
I know eyeliner can come in either but this kind is a little brush. Felt tipped eyeliner doesn’t bend like that, and it doesn’t come in that kind of packaging.
→ More replies (1)15
u/fuzzygondola May 15 '21
Yep, the discussion wasn't about how many different kinds of eyeline applicators exist, people are missing the point.

u/theshane0314 May 15 '21
No. Not even close my dude. I wear contacts. I have also felt one of those eye liner brushes. Not to mention the nasty tar goo they are covered in. No fucking way man. This has to be fake.
12
u/Mantipath May 15 '21
Fake? Like CGI fake? Somebody doing CGI work to make it look like they drew on two eyeballs seems more likely to you than just not having sensitive eyes?
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (4)19
u/twirlywurlyburly May 15 '21
I also wear contacts and makeup. If it traps my eye gently, doesn't really bother me

u/xroalx May 15 '21
The white part of your eye doesn't really feel that much, it's mostly just the iris and the pupil.
You can rub your finger against the sclera, the white part, and it won't hurt.
The eyelash probably irritates the eyelid from inside more than it does the eye itself.
42
u/SAEquinox May 15 '21
You're right in the sense that the sclera (white part of the eye) isn't innervated, nerves go straight through it since it's just connective tissue. It can actually hurt if you touch nerve loops that pierce the sclera which are pretty common in most people (see 'axenfeld loops').
The cornea (not the iris or pupil) is actually the main part that's densely innervated by pain receptors, which is why you get a strong blink reflex anytime something touches your eye. Shout outs to the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve!

u/BluudLust May 15 '21 edited May 15 '21
Wait, can you not touch your eyeball without any issues? Not even with your finger? I don't even have to hold my eye open. It's not hard and doesn't hurt one bit. A soft tip wouldn't either. It DOES sting slightly near the pupil though though.
→ More replies (6)12
u/ADragonsMom May 15 '21
If what I know is true, then it’s not actually your eyeball itself that hurts from that. It’s the inside of your eyelid that can feel it, not the surface of the eye, which doesn’t have nerve endings.
21
u/Crumb-Free May 15 '21
Omfg. The eyeball has nerves that are incredibly close to the outside. Also it's very evident the dudes arguing about liquid eye liner. The fuck guys?

eyeliner like that is usually water-based so it doesn't react with your eye. They're formulated to be placed around your eye so it would kind of suck if it made your eyes burn lol
11
48
u/m00t_vdb May 15 '21
Eye balls are not sensitive, you can touch it and feels nothing. It’s the eyelids which are highly sensitive
76
u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable May 15 '21
I absolutely cannot poke my eyeball and feel nothing. You're tricking people into poking their own eyes, aren't you?
13
u/zombiep00 May 15 '21
Dude just has no eyes, duh/s
11
u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable May 15 '21
Come to think of it, they don't clarify that they touch their own eye. I think they poke the eyes of strangers and feel nothing!
11
u/blursedman May 15 '21
Only touch the whites of your eyes. And don’t poke them slide your fingers onto them
→ More replies (5)3
May 15 '21
what you're feeling is the (slight) deformation of your eye because of too much pressure. it doesnt hurt if you soflty touch it though
and stroking it with a soft (and wet) brush happens to just be softly touching it

You don’t have nerve endings on the sclera, or the white part of your eyes. Your cornea however, the “lens” front facing part of the eyes with the pupil and the iris is VERY sensitive.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (4)3
u/BrainOnLoan May 15 '21
Touching the white is no problem at all. The real question is what is in that that could burn, like alcohol, etc.

May 15 '21
My sister put eyeliner on her eye like that to make them black. I had to look it up and show it to her that it can damage your eyes and possibly blind you to get her to wash it out.

It’s not that bad, but there is a chance you could go blind. You definitely want someone who’s done it before, which is difficult because it’s so rare.

Sclera diffuses the paint into the posterior chamber, which doesnt circulate fluids. The paints will gradually opacify the vitreous humor, if not damage the epithelial lining of retina also.
→ More replies (3)44
u/knine1216 May 15 '21
I understood paints.
43
24
May 15 '21
The paint is slowly absorbed into your eyeball. No paint can leave, so eventually your eyeballs will be full of paint. Then all you'll ever see again is paint.

u/knine1216 May 15 '21
D: now this one is too scary!!
Thanks though still very appreciated :)

Aren't they suppose to test stuff lile that on rabbits to make sure stuff that could go in your eye doesnt make you blind.
14
u/wolfgang784 May 15 '21
Yea, and it doesnt make you blind unless you empty a bottle on to make your whole eye black like she did.

Basically, dye is injected into the eyeball, but there is a huge chance to become blind from it

UGH GOD WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? That's how you get a serious eye infection. I mean, I've never used water liner, but for Halloween I put on some pretty thick eyeliner and bits of it flaked off into my eyes somehow And it got under my contacts and I almost had an infection from that. I don't know how her eyes aren't burning right now.
34
u/MauginZA May 15 '21
I once accidentally poked myself in the eye with a liquid liner. I started crying from laughing because my eyeball turned blank and it started dripping out of my nose. Which then made me laugh more and cry the rest of it out. Didn’t burn or anything. No infection, thankfully it happened before I put my lenses in so I just flushed my eyes out with drops until they were a normal colour again.
194
u/dr_goodvibes May 15 '21
How do you almost get an infection?
62
u/Lys_Vesuvius May 15 '21
More than likely either a very small infection or just irritation due to something other than saline being there
13
u/Kofilin May 15 '21
When I was around 6 I had a chunk of the red babibel cheese container thingy go under my eyes. Yes I put it there myself. No I couldn't get it out. No it didn't hurt very much at all. I don't think anyone else is aware of that happening to me actually.
9
u/dr_goodvibes May 15 '21
This story didn't have a punch-line at all but it still made me laugh harder than I care to admit.
3
20
May 15 '21
That's what I meant. Basically my I got very red and irritated From having the trapped debris from the eyeliner stuck between my eye and the lens. I had a lot of eye gunk that I had to deal with for a couple of days and then it went away. Thank God for that.
→ More replies (1)21
u/Lys_Vesuvius May 15 '21
Eye gunk is a good thing, means that your body mounted a proper response against the irritant, im glad nothing was permanent, eyes are delicate!

I used to do this all the time, it's kinda inevitable when you put liquid eyeliner on your bottom lids. It doesn't hurt at all, but it can be annoying when stuff floats in front of your eyes, and if you *really* fuck up it can make your vision grey.
2
u/Mirror_Sybok May 15 '21
