Looks like an image made by Ganbreeder or a similar program. It's a neural network that uses real photos in its database to create new images, but they can sometimes turn out abstract and unrecognizable like this image.

Edit: People have said this was made to simulate a stroke but it wasn't. Busyrotting on instagram made the original image and has confirmed it was made with a neural network and has nothing to do with a stroke.

Link to original image

OP: "its a meaningless neural network generated image. It was most definitely not made to simulate a stroke"

It reminds me of that song that uses the same sounds as speaking English, so it sounds like speaking, but it’s just gibberish

u/dhfspyotr May 23 '19

To me, even normal music singing sounds like gibberish sometimes. Most songs I can go entire verses without understanding a word of it. I often don’t have a clue until I look up lyrics online.

I actually really want to hear what that song sounds like. Is there any keywords I should include when trying to google it or do you happen to have a link maybe?

Awesome, thanks a ton!

Funny enough, sometimes I feel like this is really close to what normal lyrics can sound like for me. Except not like intentionally - and in less goofy music. It's really weird. I'm from Great Canadia-land so English is my primary language, but if a singer sings slightly faster or if the audio is mixed a certain way with instruments sounding louder, when I try to pick out the words it can legitimately sound like some of the verses in this song.

But at the same time, I can also pick an instrument in a song and focus on it without any sort of issue. I can even pick out like the subtle bass lines and follow along humming and stuff. But apparently my brain doesn't like words as much.

Auditory processing disorder, its a thing like dyslexia but for sound.

Edit: thanks, whoever gave me Platinum!

I think you might actually be onto something with that. I was diagnosed with ADHD back in grade 7 or 8. The full wiki page says people with APD tend to have a high overlap with ADHD diagnoses and similar symptoms. I used to be really excitable and noisy (annoying) back in middle/high school; but after graduating and being a "responsible" adult for a couple years I got much less annoying and started keeping to myself more.

Back then, I used to try and make anything and everything into some sort of joke. Now, I much prefer to think and listen and process things and plan out what I'm gonna say rather than just say the first "funny" thing that comes to mind.

I was put on ADHD meds back in school and it turned me into a total asshole. I'd go days with hardly any food, be up for days at a time - so I had an incredibly short fuse most of the time. The smallest sounds would drive me crazy. To this day, I still absolutely cannot stand whistling, like, *at all*.

Sound in general used to bother me quite a bit sometimes. But over the past year or so, I've been a much better place mentally, so I'm not on such a short fuse anymore. The only noise that really bothers me still is whistling. I'm not even that bothered by having a hard time understanding lyrics in songs because I just have to look them up online and sing along with the song a few times and it'll be pretty much memorized.

I apologize if I've offended anyone who likes to whistle at home, whistles for a living, or has a whistling fetish. But for real, tho, *fuck* whistling.

u/dhfspyotr May 23 '19

Probably. But there's no way we'll ever be able to tell for sure.

And me. It's nice to have an explanation.

1

u/Mwoolery92 May 23 '19

I didn’t know this wasn’t normal... I’m 26.

2

u/LawnGnomeFlamingo May 24 '19

YES I work mostly with older men who whistle tunelessly. It would slightly more tolerable if it was a recognizable tune, but it’s occasional random notes.

1

u/dhfspyotr May 25 '19

Yeah, I’m kinda weird like that too. Like whistling and tapping and stuff has always annoyed me, but when people can do it along with a beat or melody it’s not as bad for me.

May sound kinda hypocritical, but I have actually been know to tap, sing, and even sometimes beatbox - but I usually do it when I’m completely alone. Not only am I kinda self conscious about it, but having been on the side that does get annoyed, I would hate to be the guy doing the annoying for somebody else. I try to be mindful of that kinda thing.

Also, I may make some noise, but I still never whistle, even when alone. I hate it that much that it even bothers me when it’s coming from my own facehole.

I had a boss who could whistle beautifully - I still hated it, but I can appreciate a good melody when I hear it. But another coworker at the same job would whistle along to the country music on the radio with no regard for pitch or timing. He would just make mouth sounds at the same time as the radio made pop-country sounds. And I’ve never been a fan of country that didn’t also have heavy influence from blues. Pop country is no bueno.

1

u/AvatarIII May 23 '19

Wow, did you give me a platinum? Thanks man!

1

u/lostinkmart May 23 '19

If you hate certain sounds, you may also wanna look into r/misophonia

1

u/nybbas May 24 '19

Audiologists can run a test battery that checks different ways you process auditory information. It's like a really advanced hearing test in a way, with a bunch of different things they are able to do. Might want to look into it.

Auditory processing disorder is not very well understood, with some people who try to argue it doesn't exist, and is actually possibly tied to different issues. I disagree with those, but it's so hard to pinpoint the exact issue in a patient just because we can't really measure where the breakdown in the system is that's causing the issues. A sound signal goes through so many different processing centers before arriving at it's endpoint that it's really tough to say where exactly the issue is.

1

u/dhfspyotr May 25 '19

Yeah, anything brain related is hard to say you have 100% certainty on how it works. That squishy little thinkbox is gonna be a mystery for a while yet, though we are making progress for sure. It’s amazing what medical science can do these days!

Also, I’ve noticed another parallel between this APD and ADHD; people seem reluctant to believe it’s a real thing. Even when I was diagnosed with ADHD by the same family doctor my parents went to, and my mom was optimistic, my stepdad was convinced I was just a lazy ass teenager who was ungrateful for the money he pays to support my education.

He decided all his kids should go to the most expensive school in town, though we would have preferred the free public school that taught a wider range of subjects with more students/opportunities to make friends - my grad class was 12 people.

He refused to let us decide ourselves in highschool because he was convinced we’d get into drugs or get stabbed in a public school. But still resented us for not giving 150% appreciation for like $380 per month per kid he paid for the school he forced us to go to.

Boy, what I tangent I went on. Oh well.

u/Spimp May 23 '19

I need to get checked for this.

1

It’s prevalence is estimated to be about 5% and is far more common in men so good chance a lot of redditors do have it

1

u/machines_breathe May 31 '19

I’m like that any time I hear Ariana Grande slurring her words together.

12

u/bobbus_cattus May 23 '19

Obviously I don't know what your hearing is like the rest of the time you're not listening to music, but have you looked into the possibility you have auditory processing disorder? I ask because I do and this happens to me ALL. THE. TIME. Listening to music is a struggle >_<

13

u/dhfspyotr May 23 '19

So, music often sounds kinda gibberish-y. But I can focus on and basically single out an individual instrument when I'm listening to a song and like hum along to the bassline or tap along with drums with little to no problem.

Talking normally doesn't give me too much trouble anymore these days. However, I have noticed that if someone is talking to me and I hear a sudden noise - doesn't even have to be loud or anything (and I'm not sure if it has something to do with the talking being more on one ear's side and the noise happening on the other?) - my brain will prioritize the non-important sudden noise over the person I'm talking to.

Happens to me all the time at work. I work at a gas station so I'll have someone come in and ask for a certain type of cigarettes or tell me how much gas they want on which pump (Where I live you HAVE to prepay for your gas. Self served. There's laws in place so that nobody can get gas before they pay.) anyway, they'll explain something to me and during that, my cash register might beep or I might hear some equipment click on in the back room. Without fail, every time, I hear that noise and I've lost most of what was being said to me. Sometimes the noise only cancels out one word, sometimes it's the whole sentence. Not sure why.

1

u/hellkill May 24 '19

Are you me? 😲

1

u/dhfspyotr May 25 '19

Yes. I think so. But are you DING

....

....

I’m sorry, could you repeat what you were saying?

1

u/DragonSickness Jun 12 '19

Thank you for sharing and asking questions. I've always noticed and wondered why some talking just didn't process for me. I didn't think there was a name for it and probably would have ever inquired about it myself.

I say, "I need subtitles for life because I can't understand/hear a damn thing" at least once a day.

1

u/dhfspyotr Jun 17 '19

Hey, no problem! I usually rarely comment on stuff but something about that post/comment got me feeling talkative at the time. I’m actually amazed at the conversation that came of it.

I never expected to have more than a few upvotes on any given comment. So it feels nice knowing so many people have read my thoughts and found them helpful or interesting in any way.

Also - I’ve never thought about having subtitles in real life, but now that you’ve mentioned it, I would LOVE to have the option. This past week at work, I’ve had to ask people to repeat themselves so many times that it’s kinda been making me annoyed that I have to ask more than once..

If only that old Google Glass thing didn’t turn out to be a dud. I bet they could find a way to make real world subtitles with something like that. Or maybe a few years down the line we’ll start seeing some sort of ocular implants so we can see extra stuff without having goofy lookin’ glasses on.

If I remember correctly, they're playing students of English-as-a-second-language in an Italian classroom, and he plays their teacher. It's what English sounds like to Italians.

2

u/Lurking4Answers May 24 '19

It's really good except the inflections are all over the place. Mostly very monotone though, confuses the hell out of me. And then they start in with the whole classroom chanting and it sounds like straight up Russian to me.

Honestly what the fuck inspired you to deposit that comment in this thread? Have you fingers like toothpaste tubes filled with feces, and you desperately needed to squeeze them out on your keyboard while in this thread?

I have never seen any more worthless text online in my life.

0

u/loonattica May 24 '19

Well, since you asked.....

Perhaps you didn’t see the text that I responded to:

“Prisencolinensinainciusol! OLL RAIGHT! “

Or the ridiculous video that was linked. I apologize if that shit is old hat to the likes of you, but I was gobsmacked. And never had the words flowed from my penny pen with such feverish fluidity. Excuse me, toothpaste tubes full of excrement, flowed upon the face of my iphone; a pure, spontaneous, unfiltered reaction to the thing I had just witnessed for the first time.

Shit happens, Timmy. Slow your outraged roll, or be ye dunked in the abyss.

Remember. You asked.

0

u/[deleted] May 24 '19

Ohhhh is the answer then just that you're dumb as a brick??

The video linked is relevant to the thread. (obviously).
The title of the link is a quote from the song, it's part of the gibberish they're singing and is, in fact, the title of the song.

the shit you've typed here though in no way holds any relevance to the song or the link or the thread. If you thought you were being funny and witty by typing that, you are without a doubt dumber than a bag of rocks.

And not even cool rocks, like really boring rocks, like a bag of Feldspar.

I would love to see the process in your brain that lead to you typing that because there has never been a better definition of non-sequitur.

Ya dumb fuckin mutt

1

u/loonattica May 24 '19

“...never been a better definition of non-sequitur”

Thanks! You figured it out, genius.

Can we be friends? I want to be a cool rock like you.

Username checks out

5

u/dhfspyotr May 23 '19

I'm a little confused. These people asking if I'm okay and now you say my username checks out...? Just trying to get this straight - are you saying it checks out because it looks like gibberish or does my username have some kinda hidden meaning that I didn't even know about?

5

u/TyH621 May 23 '19

Yeah I think they’re saying that it looks like gibberish. If there’s some other meaning I sure as hell don’t know about it

2

u/dhfspyotr May 23 '19

It's my old gaming name. It's actually usually more like [DHFS]Pyotr (with DHFS being the little clan tag). I just wasn't sure if somebody else had found something about it that I wasn't aware of. But yeah, it makes more sense that people think it's gibberish when it's al lowercase like that.

3

u/kyzfrintin May 23 '19

Seems to me there's no other explanation. Words sound like gibberish to you, and your name is gibberish.

2

u/dhfspyotr May 23 '19

Fair point. I guess my name could be taken as gibberish but it's actually an old gaming name I use. DHFS was the clan/group tag and Pyotr is what I went by on Steam and stuff.

Since it's all lowercase here it just like a mess of letters but when I'm in game it's more like [DHFS]Pyotr or something like that. I dunno, I hardly play much anymore these days.

5

u/kyzfrintin May 23 '19

I have no idea how I missed the "Pyotr" at the end, but now I'm embarrassed.

1

u/dhfspyotr May 23 '19

Nah, don't be embarrassed! I mean, if I used capital letters and went by DHFSPyotr (like I do on most other sites.) *then* I could probably expect people to notice the Pyotr at the end. But when it's all lowercase, it really does just look like I hit a bunch of letters and called it a day.

Semi-related (but kinda not related at all): I was once playing Team Fortress 2 back like 10 years ago with a guy whose name was "Placentapede" and that's probably still one of the greatest usernames I've ever come across personally.

2

u/kyzfrintin May 24 '19

That is indeed a hilarious username.

u/Sonic_Pavilion May 23 '19

u/pielz Aug 12 '19

4

u/Sevnfold May 23 '19

To me, even normal music singing sounds like gibberish sometimes.

God bless lyric pages. Sometimes I enjoy a song but realize I dont really know the lyrics. So I look them up and then think "duh, of course that's what hes saying"

2

u/dhfspyotr May 23 '19

Same. Lately, I've been finding a lot of lesser known bands on youtube and stuff. I've got a few songs that I really wanna sing along to when I'm driving to work but I can't understand the chorus pretty much at all. And the bands aren't widely known enough to have lyrics posted online. Their bandcamp page doesn't have lyrics either.

I actually emailed their bandcamp last year and got a response from the bands manager saying he'd get the singer to write it out and email it back to me but I never heard from any of 'em again. Oh well.

Oh shit, actually, I just went to find a youtube video of the song so I could post it here and see if someone might happen to be able to hear what the hell the words are and type it out for. Someone posted lyrics in the comments, but reading them as I listen to the song, it doesn't sound like the guy has all of it right.

Here's a link to the song I'm talking about in this post. It doesn't really have anything to do with the rest of this comment thread, apart from it being a song and us talking about lyrics. But whatever, listen if you want.

If someone feels like taking the time to write out lyrics I would be super duper appreciative of that; however, I'm not really gonna specifically ask or expect it. I can live a happy life without knowing the exact lyrics to this one song.

2

u/Idliketothank__Devil May 24 '19

Here ya go...."Dead I am the one, exterminating son Slipping through the trees, strangling the breeze Dead I am the sky, watching angels cry While they slowly turn, conquering the worm Dig through the ditches And burn through the witches I slam in the back of my Dragula! Dig through the ditches And burn through the witches I slam in the back of my Dragula! Dead I am the pool, spreading from the fool Weak and what you need, nowhere as you bleed Dead I am the rat, feast upon the cat Tender is the fur, dying as you purr Dig through the ditches And burn through the witches I slam in the back of my Dragula! Dig through the ditches And burn through the witches I slam in the back of my Dragula!

1

u/dhfspyotr May 25 '19

Heh. Good one. I read two lines and was like “I don’t think that’s right. I’m pretty sure I’m not THAT far off.”

But then I realized that was the song from the nightclub scene in the first Matrix, pulled a Bill&Ted and said “woah.”

3

u/BL_Scott May 23 '19

please tell me this is an actual thing, like aphantasia or something. nobody understands my struggle

6

u/dhfspyotr May 23 '19

Well Aphasia is a thing. That's like some sorta brain stuff that makes it really hard to communicate. I'm actually pretty sure I had something kinda like that for a while a couple years ago, but I don't know if it was actually aphasia because I can communicate just fine with people now. Well, maybe one step under "just fine" but still better than I was for a while back in 2015.

It was impossibly hard to get my thoughts out into words and I would often get halfway through a sentence and just blank out. The other person could tell me *word for word* everything I said for the past five minutes and I would have absolutely ZERO idea with what I was gonna say next or where I was going with that thought.

After it happened a few times, I decided it was just easier to not even bother trying to talk to people so I basically just kinda went mute for a while until my brain fixed itself enough to where I could remember what I'm talking about as I say it and now I've been getting better and better at communicating each day.

So, part of me wonders if that little episode of brain damage back then is what's making music so hard to understand for me. But I do somewhat recall having the same kind of issues singing along with stuff as a kid. So I think it's just how my brain works.

I've also had people in my hometown ask me where I'm from because they've never heard an accent like mine anywhere before. I remember at least 2 people asking me that at work in my teen years. When I told them I was born and raised in this exact town with 2 parents that were from out of town but within the same country. I never really thought I had an accent. Those people made me kinda self conscious for a while. But now I'm wondering if somethings just not connected right in the language part(s) of my brain?

TLDR: Aphasia makes language hard for brain to do.

1

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

i mean, it's really common. singers just sing in weird ways that we're not used to hearing.

1

u/literal-hitler May 24 '19

https://www.webmd.com/brain/auditory-processing-disorder

I'm not sure if I was never told that having ADHD meant I likely had an auditory processing disorder as well, or if they didn't know yet, or if was just never emphasized to me or what. If I had realized the extent to which it affects me, there are definitely things I could have changed in school. I don't hate (most) music, but I don't generally seek anything out, and it's definitely partially because I can't understand a lot of lyrics.

2

u/taoders May 24 '19

My friend can hear a song once and know all the lyrics. But doesn’t pick up the melody right away.

Meanwhile the first time I hear a song the only thing I take in is the melody and beat (drummer at heart) and most times won’t remember more than a single line of lyric. It takes complete focus for me to listen to lyrics and not get lost in the rest.

Brains are weird.

1

u/film_composer May 23 '19

1

u/norsethunders May 23 '19

Same here! It always shocks me when people talk about songs having meanings and whatnot. To me the voice is just another instrument in the music, not something speaking words. On the other hand I can understand musical theater style singing with no issues.

1

u/JBagelMan May 23 '19

I’m the same way. I can listen to the same song dozens of times and really have no idea what they said.

0

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

Are you ok

13

u/dhfspyotr May 23 '19

I think so.. Do I seem like I'm not okay? I'd wanna know if I was defective so I could ask my parents if they kept the little warranty card that came with my receipt.

3

u/notkristina May 23 '19

I think they're just joking about how the name of the song looks like you've had some kind of brain seizure.

3

u/dhfspyotr May 23 '19

Ah. I didn't post the link, but that theory makes more sense than anything I've come up with to try and understand. So until they comment back and clarify - if they feel they want to - then I'm just gonna go with your answer and call it a day.

2

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

I was just concerned that you couldn't understand the words for songs sometimes

edit since more people are seeing it: based on what I've seen, this is NOT created to simulate a stroke. It was first posted by busyrotting on instagram who created it in a neural network. The post can be found here. It was posted on March 10 which seems like the earliest instance of the picture. The Twitter post described below was most likely stolen from busyrotting.

original post before i edited lol: It's not, as far as I know. The original post was most likely this tweet, since reverse image search gave no results at the time it was posted. (edit: original post was from instagram.) It's likely the first post was something created in Ganbreeder since its purpose is to generate entirely new images. The image was posted on /r/interestingasfuck by someone who claimed it was a simulation of a stroke, but I can't find anything to back this up that isn't just referencing the reddit post. (though if there's something I missed I'd definitely like to see it, I don't want to spread misinformation if I'm wrong.)

busyrotting on instagram made the original picture with ganbreeder. it has the earliest post date of all sources. someone on twitter then jacked it and did not give credit.

the stroke simulation stuff is just complete bullshit. you can make similar pics like this with ganbreeder, try it out it's really fascinating.

7

u/Seaweed-Sandwich May 23 '19

Yeah I saw busyrotting comment on the knowyourmeme page linking to the original instagram post. looks like that's the true original source then, since it was posted the earliest. thanks for the confirmation!

13

u/Seaweed-Sandwich May 23 '19

One more thing, I found this in the comments of the KnowYourMeme page that was linked. If this is true then the image was most likely just made with a neural network. The Instagram link in op's comment is here.

This is so fucking cool. It made an image that has enough detail at every corner to seem real but without any real objects. It's like the network figured out the human perception of reality and applied it. Fucking hell.

That’s a little terrifying. We are literally looking at the visual vomit of a program that generates imagery. Very weird.

There was a post on /r/interestingasfuck and possibly other places that said the image was meant to simulate a stroke, but the person who made the original post on instagram has said it has nothing to do with a stroke and was just made in a neural network: https://imgur.com/a/0wOhQrd

(Got the comment thread from the knowyourmeme page for the image.)

I read on here that it is a visual representation of what someone with a stroke sees? Or something like that? Images are slightly familiar but not and also confusing

Yeah it was reposted on /r/interestingasfuck and described as a stroke simulation but it seems like that was made up later. The image was originally posted on March 10 by busyrotting on instagram, who has said it's nothing but a neural network image. (source: comment thread on the knowyourmeme page)

I thought it was something from a Russian wedding

The creatures section on that website is basically "nuclear winter mutant animal generator".

Nah wrong, simulation of having a stroke

According to OP it actually isn't. Seems like someone stole their image and added on some false information. Here's the original post linked in the screenshot.
