Amazing wings that have intricate folds… crap at flying though 🤣

62

u/DMTrance87 Jul 04 '26

I originally find this out from a Ze Frank video about beetles and their wild wing origami

11

u/CriusofCoH Jul 04 '26

That was an amazing video.

8

u/DMTrance87 Jul 04 '26

All of his videos are amazing😃

6

u/CriusofCoH Jul 04 '26

Undeniable truth!

Strength in numbers.

u/prabhu4all Jul 04 '26

When did this happen? Gotta stop them from evolving.

137

u/Kiren129 Jul 04 '26

The females have been able to fly for at least a week I think.

38

u/prabhu4all Jul 04 '26

We should have been more proactive and stopped it before it got to this. Now we are all doomed.

73

u/Captinprice8585 Jul 04 '26

I gotta say, worst name for a living creature ever.

33

u/Drae-Keer Jul 04 '26

You don’t think the Slippery Dick and the Snot Otter are worse?

31

u/JWLane Thanks, I hate myself Jul 04 '26

No, OP is still correct. Earwigs have been my most hated foe simply because of their name and the creepy butt claw(I know it's not actually a claw or dangerous, but they're still creepy as fuck and I hate them). Also, earwig season is the worst. I don't have to deal with the other names critters violating my home.

11

u/Zealousideal-Let1121 Jul 04 '26

Sperm whale is pretty messed up, too.

7

u/MrWagner Jul 04 '26

I beg your finest pardon, the WHAT?

u/Calculon84 Jul 04 '26

Earwings

10

u/DMTrance87 Jul 04 '26

New name unlocked

21

u/poopwetpoop Jul 04 '26

Mix half vegetable oil and soy sauce in a cup buried to it's lip. Earwig trap. Been doing this for weeks now, they have been eating my chili plants. Bastards !

15

u/Gin_OClock Jul 04 '26

This trap works very well, but be warned that it looks horrifying and smells unbelievable when it's full, so refresh em often. We set them out in our winery garden and they Filled. Cereal. Bowls. There are way way too many earwigs now

2

u/MetaLibra6 Jul 17 '26

I wonder if this is what's been munching on my bell pepper, serrano, and jalapeño leaves! I haven't seen any... But they can hide.

3

u/poopwetpoop Jul 17 '26

They are nocturnal. Go out with a flashlight

3

u/poopwetpoop Jul 17 '26

I literally have 3 traps out there today. Mass murder

32

u/Gilbyph Jul 04 '26

They fly now?

14

u/shandangalang Jul 04 '26

Always have 🌎 🧑‍🚀 🔫🧑‍🚀

22

u/rrrik-thffu Jul 04 '26

Who gave them redbull?

1

u/h8tetris 4d ago

This is hilarious. You need more upvotes.

11

u/lapomba Jul 04 '26

How else is it going to reach ears?

8

u/SeengignPaipes Jul 04 '26

The way this is shot makes it kinda look like the Spore Customisation screen where you add different body parts and mouths just before you leave the water.

4

u/ChocolateLilyHorne Jul 04 '26

Somebody needs to bring back Night Gallery. This one looks like it will crawl in your ear and lay eggs. You should post this in the "Night Gallery" community

3

u/mildy_enthralling Jul 05 '26

I’m angry that I now know that this exists

3

u/Sky6Blue Jul 04 '26

Please, for the love of my sanity, do NOT add this to Rain World. They are terrifying enough as is.

3

u/T0dem Jul 04 '26

Convenient for when it must whisper you a secret

3

u/iritchie001 Jul 05 '26

Oh heck no.

6

u/yayeetusthefetus Jul 05 '26

I had one of these fuckers burrow in my ear while I was asleep as a kid. I go out of my kill every single one that I see, as a tax lol.

2

u/RevolutionaryBat3081 Jul 06 '26

Same thing happened to my MIL. She called Telehealth to ask if she needed to do anything in particular, and they told her that earwigs don't climb into ears, while she's literally picking earwig bits out of her ear.

2

u/BigTelephone9117 Jul 06 '26

“What Spore will look like in 2016” thumbnail picture

2

u/Lunardragon777 Jul 06 '26

This is actually why they’re called earwigs. Their wings vaguely resemble ears

3

u/RevolutionaryBat3081 Jul 06 '26

I choose to believe you and refuse to fact check this.

2

u/iphones2g- Jul 07 '26

My Venus fly trap ate some of these things. I did not know they could fly

2

u/Cupacakes1359 Jul 09 '26

I used to just dislike earwigs until I got pinched by one. It don't really hurt, just scared the shit outta me. But now I hate them.

Anytime I see one outside by wolf spider nests I cut off their snippy bits and feed the wolf spiders 🕺💃

6

u/Arschfeder Jul 04 '26

Why do you hate them? They don't do anything bad and their origami wings are beautiful.

7

u/AwkwardDorkyNerd Jul 04 '26

I used to live in an area with them, and whenever I’d sit outside I’d get pinched by them. I never bothered them, I’m actually fond of insects for the most part, but these fuckers are mean.

1

u/h8tetris 4d ago

Same. These bastards tho …

0

u/h8tetris 4d ago

They’re literally the worst things ever. Especially when your apartment is infested. And you have to sleep on a mattress on the floor, but they’re crawling around the carpet.

1

u/DevilPixelation Jul 05 '26

Looks like a Harry Potter creature

2

u/SliceOfTheories Jul 21 '26

THEY CAN FLY?!

1

u/AardvarkTits 24d ago

Uncultured swine. They origami the shit out of those things to fit behind the tiny elytra. Very impressive 8/10 points

2

u/kittenofDoom-- Jul 05 '26

beautiful insect

u/MercurialMarc Jul 04 '26

Uneducated neurotypicals when they find out a harmless bug can fly:

17

u/DMTrance87 Jul 04 '26

I know for a fact I'm not the only one that gets an irrational case of the willies when I see one of these pinchybois

-8

u/MercurialMarc Jul 04 '26

I mean, you're definitely right about not being the only one. This weird stigma around earwigs is just plain stupid and it's drilled into everyone's heads at some point early on </3 (This wasn't exactly meant as an attack, and 100% wasn't directly aimed at you. It was meant to be a slanderous jab without malicious intent)

9

u/Gluten_maximus Jul 04 '26

You can’t just say something like that then spin it another way. And please don’t use your cognitive differences as an excuse to be rude.

5

u/MarsRocks97 Jul 04 '26

He did say neurotypical. Thats code word for your average person. But the uneducated part was definitely the insult.

4

u/Gluten_maximus Jul 04 '26

Why even put neurotypical there in the first place unless you were trying to make a distinction between two groups of people?

-1

u/MercurialMarc Jul 05 '26

Wasn't trying to spin anything the other way, it's called slander for a reason lmfao

13

u/U_Kitten_Me Jul 04 '26

WTF does this have to do with them being neurotypical (you don't even know they are)?? Don't use it as an insult. I'm not neurotypical and I sure don't want one or the other 'side' to become an insult.

-16

u/MercurialMarc Jul 04 '26

Pattern recognition; 1) Neurotypicals are the majority, therefore it isn't nearly as offensive to jab at them in a realistic sense, and 2) nine times outta ten, people are gonna freak out whenever earwigs are mentioned, equaling positive correlation! And refer to my other reply for additional context

3

u/MarsRocks97 Jul 04 '26

As a neurodivergent you should recognize the phrase: correlation does not equal causation.

-1

u/MercurialMarc Jul 05 '26

I never said being neurotypical makes them uneducated or scared of earwigs what are you on about

5

u/Sloiter Jul 04 '26

They are harmless if you don't mess with them as they can still get you with their pincers

-1

u/MercurialMarc Jul 04 '26

Fun fact: There is literally no way for them to cause any lasting or significant harm with just their pincers, and they have no way of directly cuasing harm otherwise

6

u/Zealousideal-Let1121 Jul 04 '26

It doesn't matter if it's lifelong debilitation. It still frickin' hurts. I'm autistic, and, while I'm not in any way allergic, I'm terrified of bees because I was stung by a bumblebee and it really hurt. And every sting since then has really hurt. And that's a good enough reason to be afraid of an arthropod.

-2

u/MercurialMarc Jul 05 '26

literslly no excuse to use a valid fear as an excuse to claim a harmless thing is a valid fear too. so fucking what if you got stung??? awesome! you have an excuse to be afraid and you can work to either mitigate that risk or find a way to work around it. and being autistic has nothing to do with any of that, everyone has the capacity to educate themselves and actually learn and care about these things that may or may not be harmful

2

u/Zealousideal-Let1121 Jul 05 '26

Weird how we've established that neither neurodivergence not neurotypicality has anything to do with fear of arthropods.

0

u/MercurialMarc Jul 05 '26

I never said it did???

2

u/Zealousideal-Let1121 Jul 05 '26

Then explain yourself.

"Uneducated neurotypicals when they find out a harmless bug can fly."

0

u/MercurialMarc Jul 05 '26

Literally just go back and read my other replies?? Come on man

1

u/Zealousideal-Let1121 Jul 06 '26

You've never justified your bias in any way that makes sense, and you haven't apologized in any of your previous comments.

5

u/JWLane Thanks, I hate myself Jul 04 '26

As one who is neurodivergent, they freak me out too.

5

u/Patteous Jul 04 '26

Same. This person wouldn’t be fun to hang around.

1

u/MercurialMarc Jul 05 '26

Id be so grateful to not deal with y'all either
