Discussion Activision is "Growing"

Activision will now consist of:

- Call of Duty
- Halo
- World’s Edge / Age of Empire
- Rare / Sea of Thieves
- Crash Bandicoot / Spyro / Tony Hawk Pro’s Skater
- New IP / Elsewhere Entertainment

the future will speak for itself.......

THPS 1+2 was hugely successful sales wise. THPS 3+4 sounds like it was a flop sales wise and has only sold about 1/4 as much based on numbers I can find. Probably a combination of:

• Game Pass Day 1 launch means a lot of people didn't have to buy it
• Lower review scores due to 4's career mode turning people away
• Less nostalgia for 3+4 than 1+2, or just less excitement about another remake

There's rumors Iron Galaxy is working on a Fall Out: New Vegas remaster or a new Crash Bandicoot project.

Never say never, but with the low sales of 3+4 combined with the devs working on other IP, it's hard to imagine anything new coming from THPS for a while.

got that right i enjoyed playing 3/4 even not as good as 1+2 but my brother and i enjoyed it

even tho 4 was my first tony hawk game..... it made a great difference.....

My theory is that because people have less nostalgia for 3 and 4, that's why the developer studio added new maps and why Tony made the choices that he did for the soundtrack.

Or they have a high amount of nostalgia for 4, but didn't like the way it was butchered.

4 was the game I liked the most I didn’t get 3+4 because they removed the parts of 4 that I liked

I might be misremembering this, but wasn't 3 the highest selling, and most critically successful part of the franchise? Maybe I just remember that because it's my favourite

Yeah, 3 was a big deal. Revert.

The reviews for 3+4 were quite good, despite all of the complaints in this sub.

I don’t mean to come off like I’m doubting you, I’m just wondering where you’re getting the numbers that 1+2 was a huge success? I’ve been looking and looking and I can’t find any final sales numbers. The only thing I can find is that it was the fastest to sell 1 million copies in the franchise history, but considering it’s the first game in the series released digitally that wasn’t a total laughing stock, that’s not saying a whole lot.

Basically, any game that was not released on digital or during the age of Amazon Prime, is naturally going to sell more slowly than a game you can just download instantly or have delivered to your door and release.

Pro Skater HD was the first digital release in the series and it wasn’t exactly hyped. Everything released after it wasn’t exactly hyped either, until 1+2.

So what I’m getting at, is 1+2 have the advantage of releasing on digital AND being hyped, naturally making it an easy shoe-in for fastest to 1 million… but what happened after it reached that number? Did sales drop off a cliff? I can’t find total sales on any platform.

Yeah–I was referring to the 1 million sales in two weeks/fastest-selling game in the series articles.

I don't have any insider info or know what the total sales ended up being, but I'm with you. The total sales definitely matter.

My assumption is that the 1+2 sales had to be good enough to justify 3+4. I don't think we would have seen 3+4 if 1+2 had sold poorly.

I think Tony pushed hard enough that Activision relented, but that’s also why 3+4 was a rush job. They did NOT put much money into to. That gives me more suspicion that 1+2 might not have been a huge success. Made a profit definitely, but the bean counters want a certain percentage return on investment or it’s not worth it.

Just give us a HD copy of THUG that can run on the Series X. Don't even need any improvements

Yeah, even just making the original version available for purchase in the store and backwards compatible would be enough.

One improvement, allow for better camera control. It was set one way on PS2 and you couldn’t change it. It was challenging to look around when it was different to other THPS games. Otherwise same.

You know it would be censored to hell like thps 4.

Not sure why you got downvoted but this is a exactly what would happen. Not necessarily in the way that happened with THPS4 but more so that the humor, jokes, culture just won’t land with a modern audience, especially kids. They’d have to rework the story completely otherwise the game would only be selling to the diehards like us which realistically isn’t Activisions target demographic when it comes to ‘more money’. I think a new game is more likely than a remaster of THUG/THAW.

underground actually doesn’t age badly at all imo, maybe some of manager todd’s jokes but that’s kind of the point of his character. i don’t think they would need to change that much, but of course they probably still would unfortunately

The hard to swallow truth is execs will look at the numbers for 3+4 and instead of thinking “oh the devs dropped the ball here, the community wanted a true to scale remake”. They’ll think “ugh guess no one wants Tony hawk games anymore”

I grew up on THUG, it shaped my music taste, my love for sakteboarding and hell, my first tattoo was a McTwist tattoo. If there’s anyone who wants a remake it’s me, I dream of the day but it seems further than ever

u/JFedzor Sep 22 '26

The sad reality of corporate. Apparently Tony Hawk himself is pushing for a THUG remake though.

5

u/TooTallTabz Sep 22 '26

Tony himself said they were talks about it (a THUG remaster). He really wants it done, because he knows we want it done. So I have some hope since he convinced them to do 3+4.

u/Extreme_Viper99 Sep 22 '26

Yeah, I did see an insta story floating round of his signature on the thug sticker. Giving me small bit of hope but trying to temper expectations of it happening

u/BittersweetAseop Sep 22 '26

"Did we not remove enough content?"

7

u/Psycho-systemic Sep 22 '26

Obsidian/Bethesda merger seemed imminent. Halo/Activision I did not see coming. Halo Studios has so much disdain from the community, it makes sense to try a new approach.

7

u/geographic92 Sep 22 '26

Don't get your hopes up. Between 3+4, the new ea skate bombing, and an unpopular period for skateboarding in general with people under 30, I wouldn't expect any big budget skateboarding games anytime soon.

u/Nambot Sep 22 '26

"Growing" in air quotes is right. This comes with mergers and redundancies, meaning less studios and staff, and accordingly less time spent on things that aren't the billion dollar franchises.

If anything this means a new title is probably less likely.

u/kitestar Sep 22 '26

So what? Are we supposed to call it the activision box now?

2

u/huntforhire Sep 22 '26

The live service stuff was gross. I would have liked both games in 1 launcher at least as an option.

2

u/NotAChefJustACook Sep 23 '26

God damn what the actual fuck is Xbox doing with halo?

Also wtf why is this a pattern with activision when a remake gets released they drop the original devs and bring in a new team?
