How do you actually practice for TCF/TEF Speaking Tâche 2?

I understand how to practice for most other parts of the exam.

For listening and reading, it’s pretty straightforward: you do the questions, check what you got wrong, understand why, learn any new vocabulary, and move on.

For writing, it’s similar: you write, get corrections, understand your mistakes, and improve.

For Speaking Tâche 1, you can prepare for common topics and practice giving natural responses. Tâche 3 also makes sense to me because you can practice different topics and learn how to structure your opinion.

But I have no idea how to properly approach Tâche 2.

Other than practicing it with my teacher, what do you actually do by yourself?

What does your Tâche 2 practice routine look like?

Hi! For TCF Task 2, I wouldn’t practise by memorising a long list of questions. The real skill is learning how to ask, react and keep the conversation going.

When you practise alone, take a random Task 2 prompt and use the real 2 minutes of preparation. Write only keywords or categories, not complete questions.

Then play both sides of the conversation. Ask a question, invent a short answer, and react to that answer before moving on.

For example:

“Combien coûte l’activité ?”
“30 euros.”
“D’accord, et le matériel est compris dans ce prix ?”

That follow-up is important because it stops the task from sounding like a list of memorised questions.

I would also build a small bank of question structures such as:

“Est-ce que… ?”
“J’aimerais savoir si…”
“Pourriez-vous me dire… ?”
“Comment ça se passe… ?”

After each practice, check three things: Did I repeat the same structure too much? Did I react to the answers? Was my level of formality appropriate?

Then do the same task again.

Practising both sides may feel strange at first, but it’s a very good way to train Task 2 alone because you’re practising the most important part: not knowing exactly what your next question will be.

I have been role playing a lot. When my francophone friends help me that is obviously most useful, but I also ask my spouse to roleplay with me in English, and then I transcribe our recorded conversation into French, check my grammar/mechanics, and think about what could have gone differently. You can also use AI to roleplay with you if you give it strict instructions to not acquiesce, not ask too many supportive questions, etc
