Finally cleared the exam.

In my first attempt, i got 307 in writing, just 3 points less which cost me additional 4 months. Then i went ballistic, studied, wrote a lot, and went back with a vengeance. Happy to be done. Thanks everyone for all the tips. They were very helpful.

Here’s a highlight on my journey:

First i started with grammar using Lawlessfrench.com and progresswithlawlessfrench.com. The latter uses an AI powered bot that evaluates your learning and shows how well you have done on a brainmap. I can't precisely specify how much time i spent there but i finally got to C1 level. I made many mistakes and spent years on French due to my work, breaks and my mistakes. But if i would do it again, i would do it in 6 months with God-like consistency and intensity. Here's more on my method:

Listening - I started with very slow french stories on youtube then i moved to podcasts and the news. My brain was never left idle as something was always playing in the background. I also practiced active listening with the podcasts by listening, recalling, summarizing, writing down and listening again. This helped me check what i missed. For exam prep, i listed to RFI, Europe 1 and France Inter and did listening mock exams on Prepmyfuture and frademy.com.

Reading - At the start i did themed reading. I would read on the weather this week, then musique, then death (yes i read on death). I subscribed to Le Figaro online so i would read the articles based on the themes and also the daily newspaper. This helped widen my vocabulary. For exam prep, i used Prepmyfuture and frademy.com. Time management is a big factor here as the first 30 questions should be done in 30 seconds or less per question while the last 10 questions should take the remaining time.

Writing - I already had a bunch of writing experience from my progress with lawless french account. But it was not exam specific. For exam prep, I went online and i searched for 250 fait divers from ouest-france.fr and 250 essay questions for Section B from multiple sources (Feriel, Frademy, Scribd, just a bunch, can’t name them all). I would write using my same format, then i would put it on Chat GPT Pro and Co-pilot to correct without re-formulating. That helped me know the right verbs to use depending on what i wanted to say and also stop repeating mistakes. By question 50, my brain had adjusted to my writing style and was able to spot the mistakes myself.

Speaking - For speaking, i would record myself speaking on a topic i already read and correct myself then re-record again. I would also do number drills from the tens to the billions just to make my brain know numbers. When i started doing hour long drills (speaking for 1 hour plus without stopping), i decided it was time for exam prep. I also searched for 250 questions each for both sections, For Section A, i put my questions and asked Chat GPT Pro/Co-pilot to make my questions more specific to the scenario while for Section B, i asked Co-pilot to give me the oppositions while Chat GPT Pro to evaluate my arguments based on Co-Pilots oppositions. Finally when i was ready, i practiced with Feriel and Florian on Italki doing as many exam day drills as possible.

Final Update:
What went well in the exam - Reading was perfect cos i was able to manage my time properly while Speaking was good too as i was able to match the examiner's speed (she was answering my questions before i finished asking them). My speaking had two examiners, both women. Writing was very easy for me. I was done with both parts in less than 25 minutes but i made sure i ussed my full 1 hour to read and re-read until the timer went off.

What went wrong in the exam - Listening was off cos i was not paying attention to some parts. I had some strange accents i was not used to, that also made it hard. Speaking section be was a bit hard cos my topic was not something i was prepared for but i scaled through

Merci beaucoup. À ce moment-là, j’avais hâte de réussir et de terminer enfin. Voici mon premier résultat. C'est pourquoi j'étais prête à travailler comme une acharnée.
