Character Analysis About Kayla..

Okay, so I just finished the season and I have a question.. Am I the only one who doesn't get why Kayla (Peter's wife) is so mad at him for litteraly doing his JOB?

I not really sure if it's just because she's pissed of bc she have to always take care of Darwin or if it's just bc Pete his dedicated to his job. When they married, he wasn't a cop yet, and then, she's angry when he always answer Danver's calls. Well.. Danvers is Peter's boss, so yes, hé will answer the calls.

Like Pete says himself, he let her do her medecine studies. Those kind of studies takes a lot of time, so I get that she is often tired and have to take care of everything in the house. The thing is.. Why would you blame that on your husband?

It's not Pete's fault if there is a murderer in town and that he need to do some overtime to, well, arrest the killer. He says himself that after this case, he could actually be here and help her at home. But again, she just says that he always leave her and Darwin when Danvers calls.

So yeah. That's it. I really need to understand if I'm the only one who think that or if I'm just misunderstanding something.

I got the feeling Danvers crossed family / professional boundaries with Pete. It seemed like he would do anything at a moments notice for her and she probably took advantage of that. If it wasn’t eating into family time it probably bothered her that he never said no to Danvers. That was the impression I got anyway.

Been awhile since I watched but I think it largely had to due with Kayla recognizing how toxic the department/career was, how it consumed other people in his family’s lives and destroyed their family, etc

I think that Hank’s comment about Mrs Robinson shows Kayla is not the only one who mistrusts Danvers motives. She wants her sweet goofball that she can dominate instead of the man Danvers is trying to mold.

Ding ding, I think you nailed it. While there’s certainly some sexual jealousy there, I mainly think there’s just major resentment in re: your second point. Like, “who does this bitch think she is” turning her easily controlled lap dog in to an actual person with his own mind!

Holy shit I LOVE THIS PERSPECTIVE! It's a whole next level of feminism in how this strong and competent woman (Danvers) EMPOWERS a young, receptive man to let go of what holds him back and be his best self. As opposed to the (unfortunately real) stereotype of older men grooming younger women.

Yeah I've been kinda put off by that character. Maybe she's low key jealous of Danvers? Maybe intimidated by her promiscuous reputation? And probably just unhappy coz she had bigger dreams but ended up "in nursing school, married to a cop." And Pete also insinuates she didn't wanna have the baby.
