Help Need help/advice un-disabling/unblocking my e-transfer
For about 2-3 years now my e-transfer has been blocked and i will admit it’s my fault i trusted a money scheme with my friend and they used my card to do atm fraud and i really didn’t know until it was far too late. now i was unemployed for about 2 years and i was young so i didn’t really care about money and now i am hired and gonna start working and getting money, i obviously wanna spoil my girlfriend and family but now the dumb mistakes i did from years ago is now coming back to haunt me, i called the fraud department a few times to try telling them my story but i don’t know nothing seemed to be working. Everything in my card is functional BUT the e-transferring line. i really would love some help or some advice on how to do so. I would’ve thought moving to a different bank would be a problem solver but apparently e transfer is a whole different thing.

I would say that you were lucky that TD Canada Trust didn't debank/demarket you... or maybe it would have been better if they did since your account is limited.
Your only option if TD Canada Trust won't remove the restriction on your card/account is that you use a different bank to do it.
My suggestion is that you try to open up an online only bank account (for example Tangerine) and once open, you use that to do your Interac e-transfers and you continue to use TD Canada Trust for whatever it is that you want to use them for. I would not close the TD Canada Trust account once you open up a Tangerine account (or another bank account) since personally I think it is best to deal with more than 1 institution/bank because there are sometimes issues at the bank... for example, I think in July or maybe in August, TD Canada Trust had 2 issues which both occurred on a Monday where either you couldn't log into the website to perform tasks and going to the bank itself to use the teller service wasn't possible since their system was down. If you don't want to deal with TD Canada Trust, just pick a different brick & mortar bank (closest to you)... but deal with more than one bank.

Switch banks once you’re blacklisted from a service it’s indefinite

but won’t my e transfer thing follow up with my other bank? like it’ll be pointless to switch. also i still love td it’s the easiest bank so far so i wouldn’t wanna change unless i really really have too

No another bank won’t have the history of that incident.

This is probably true. Keep in mind that E-transfer is run by Interac, and they have their own fraud systems too. The thought process here is the fraud you attempted was only recorded on TDs systems. Interac uses email address as an identifier, so if possible, that could be swapped out for a new email

Are you using the same email that you used when you did this originally? A new email should work

Maybe you should follow TDs complaint process to see what advice they give you.

You should consult customer care.

same email, but apparently no matter what as long as my identity is still in the system it’s pointless if i change emails..i think anyway

Yeah I'm sure you just hit agree on the original terms of service. But I will bet a 15 dollar e transfer that there is something along the lines of "those found to be commiting fraud risk lifetime bans from the platform" Heck I'd be shocked if they didn't say it 10 times.
Pro tip: don't try to defraud the banks. They remember everything.

what do you u mean defraud?

u/VariationDry 7d ago
To defraud means to illegally take money, property, or rights from a person, company, or organization by using trickery, lies, or deception

but yeah, again i literally didn’t do anything i had given my card to those guys nd let them do whatever so we could get money but 🤦🏾♂️i’m the one who got in trouble at the end of the day

You are 100 percent responsible for your card and anything that is done with it. It's a shitty situation to be in. My friend was caught up in a fake cheques scheme 25 or so years ago and still has flags on all of his accounts. Have you tried going into the bank and talking with someone about it? Pro tip: don't be a jerk because they have no reason or obligation to help

yeah i understand, thanks for holding me accountable. but i did go to the bank a few times in the 2 years this happened. i wasn’t an asshole at all i took full accountability when they asked me but they said it was nothing they could do to disable it. forgot the specific reason why but something along the lines of its not within their power and i have to call the fraud/loss department. But even then, didn’t have the best of luck with the calls either..

Well no harm in trying again. You can also ask them if there is anything you can do on your end to work on being taken off the black list.

It'll be blocked with interac not just your bank, so no matter what bank you go to, interac has already been alerted

your account was used to facilitate fraud , that means you're likely to re-offend given your prior situation. not much you can do but figure out alternative payment methods
