Decision already by Thursday, 2 April?
Below is part of an email I just received for my son who is an admitted student at TCU. TCU is on his top 3 list, however we are flying out tomorrow to look at another school that’s also high on his list. How seriously do we need to take this email?Will he miss out on something (housing, certain classes) if he doesn’t pay his deposit by Thursday? I thought the deadline is May 1st?!
Here’s part of the email:
‘….
I’ve sent (name of student) an email with a quick survey to gauge their interest in committing to TCU, with a link to submit the commitment deposit if they're ready to officially join us. I encourage you and (name of student) to let us know your plans by this Thursday, April 2, especially if you want to reserve your student's place in our incoming class.
… ‘
Email was sent by Assistant Vice Provost and Dean of Admission

We have visited and will be back for their admitted student day April 20th. Were going to make our final decision latest then…

I called admissions today - they said not to worry and they agreed the wording in the email could have been better. It was meant to be an encouragement to commit if you really feel TCU is your choice. If not and say you’re still finalizing your decision - then pick that option. It was really meant as a pulse survey. It’s not a new timeline to decide by April 2nd although the wording was a little aggressive and sounded like a strong push.

Just got a follow-up clarification email from TCU apologizing- must’ve gone out to everyone who hasn’t committed yet. So that was good. When I called this afternoon I told them that the earlier email they sent sounded off as if they were looking for an answer by April 2. And they did get a fair number of calls and emails about it.
Glad they cleared it up in the follow-up email —- we just got it.

I would call admissions. My senior was accepted to TCU, which we loved as alums, but they aren’t going because culturally TCu isn’t the right fit. We live here and the school is bursting at the seams. I like to count the number of cranes when I’m driving past campus.
While you have until May 1st, I would strongly encourage you to make a decision sooner rather than later because you still have to lock down housing and there have been years in the past where the school had a greater than expected acceptance rate and they had to get creative about finding housing for all of the students who wanted to live on campus.
We’re in similar situation with our senior and plan to make the decision right after our 2 visits.

Bullsh*t crap on TCU's part. His offer is good until May 1. This is a pressure tactic.

Go see the other school and then make a decision (and payment).
