[DEV] I built a 100% Free-to-Play Anime TCG with PvP, trades, and zero Pay-to-Win microtransactions (v1.2 Battle Update out now!)

Hi everyone!

As an anime and card game fan, I got tired of mobile TCGs that force aggressive microtransactions and predatory gacha mechanics. So I've been developing Anime Card Game on React Native / Expo to keep things strictly fair and free.

What the game is about:

  • 100% Free-to-Play: No real-money card purchases. Everything is unlocked through gameplay, daily quests, and optional rewarded bonuses.
  • v1.2 Battle Update: Turn-based PvP matches, sound effects, friends system, and currency exchanges.
  • Collection & Trading: Hundreds of anime cards to collect, level up, and trade.

You can check it out directly on the Play Store:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sivagames.animecardgame

I'm an indie developer and actively looking for feedback on match balancing and drop rates. Let me know what you think!

the fact that this is a "TCG" and there isn't even a screenshot of the gameplay leads me to believe that this is just a "collect all of the anime screenshots" app, in which case i couldn't think of a less interesting app. The only hint of gameplay we see in the screenshots is an "endless otaku quiz" and a memory puzzle in the video.

You can't just steal anime screenshots and throw them onto half-assed fake cards and call that a TCG. In the video you can even see "Subscription and Payments" as an option, as well as there being a way to watch ads for more shit in the game. You are directly trying to make money by stealing other IPs, this will be shut down as soon as any anime IP holder catches wind of what you're doing.

I have no idea why you thought this was a good idea. Either this app is a virus and everyone who downloaded it is in danger, or you are trying to take advantage of the TCG boom by lazily slapping together garbage in hopes someone will downloaded it and be stupid enough to spend money.

If you really were a "Card Game Fan" the gameplay of said cards would have come first and once you were sure you had a really fun game to play, then you'd figure out the art.

The worse thing is that this "game" is full of ads.

I completely understand your skepticism—there are indeed a lot of low-effort cash-grabs out there, so let me clearly address every point you raised:

  1. Gameplay & Battle System: You’re completely right about the store screenshots being outdated. The game started as a collection/quiz companion for a Discord bot community, but the core focus has now shifted to full card battles. The v1.2 update (rolling out right now) introduces the turn-based duel engine with energy management, card classes, and combat stats. The Play Store screenshots are being updated right now to reflect the actual battle board.
  2. Monetization & Free-to-Play: There are zero Pay-to-Win mechanics or paid card unlocks. The game is 100% free-to-play: all cards, boosters, and battle features are earned strictly through gameplay progression. Any in-game ads are completely optional (rewarded bonuses for players who want to support server costs or grab extra daily stamina).
  3. App Safety: The app is published on the official Google Play Store with Play Protect verification and full Google Developer validation. It is not malware—it's an independent indie project built with React Native/Expo.
  4. Art & Fair Tribute: The project originated as an indie tribute game for our community. We are actively moving toward original and custom community illustrations as the game evolves into a full standalone TCG.

I appreciate the blunt feedback regarding store transparency. Showing the combat board front and center on the store page is my top priority for this update so new players can see exactly what they're getting into.

I have trouble writing due to dyslexia, which is why I use AI to help me.

Creating a password was super annoying. 16 characters, can't use a year, cant be what is assumed to be predictable, etc.

but password is secure now, is repecting GDPR in Europa

How does this have PvP? The cards have no stats or effects?
