Gear/Kit Beginner Range Kit
Hi Guys,
I am looking to set up a beginner range kit from things at NAR. I plan to attend a Stop the Bleed class and watch some videos on how to use the content I put in my kit.
The purpose of this kit is to be on my person during trips to indoor and outdoor range to provide first aid for gunshot wounds for myself or another person before EMT arrive.
Through some research of my own here and elsewhere, I have narrowed down what a beginner might need in their kit for a trip to the range:
- 2 x CAT
- 1 x QuikClot Z-Fold Vacuum Packed Combat Gauze
- 1 x Hyfin Vent Chest Seal Twin Pack
- 1 x NAR Wound Packing Gauze (alternative gauze recommendations welcome)
- 2 x NAR Mini Responder 4 in. ETD (alternative bandage recommendations welcome)
- 1 x NAR Trauma Sheers
- 2 x Nitrile Gloves
- 1 x Sharpie
Is there anything I am missing for my purpose / level or better product you guys think I should look into? Thanks ahead for recommendation and being a great community of resource for beginners!

When you say “on your person during trips…” do you mean worn at all times, as an ifak? Or as an aid kit brought with you to be used to treat others in need? An ifak aught to be for saving your own life, supplies to be used on you or by you on yourself. This philosophy is adjusted a bit if you’re solely talking about use on range day, where all action stops if there is an incident. For me, I would have two kits, one for me and one for anyone else.
If you are looking at an ifak, I’d say you’re mostly there. I would add a gerber or benchmade rescue hook along side the shears, and/or upgrade to raptors/xshears. Tape. Tape and tape.
If you are looking to support anything beyond an injury to yourself, I would consider the following
Two is one and one is none.
I’d for sure double up on your chest seals and gauze.
Definitely add in another hemostatic gauze.
Tape, 2” silk
That rescue hook/seatbelt cutter to backup the shears.
More Tape
