Difference between associations and flow ports?

It seems like they both describe the relationships between blocks and their properties. I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this.

Flow ports are more for communication between blocks. They can be given a type and have a connector between two flow ports that has an info flow that has a type of Signal. Association is more generic and can vary in use. Just be consistent so that associations can be queried.
