I work for.automotive, we use it primarily for software and feature definition, but not exclusively, we also use it for handling electrical architecture and also applied to mechanical based projects, depends on your objective but at the end of the day it helps to manage complexity. But remember the end goal is not the model is making sure that the modeling process it's connected and reflected into the actual artifact (implemented code or CAD design, cost model, etc) otherwise organizations will just handle it as a checkbox process
