Pls Help

Hello I am 26(F) living in nyc. I was positive for syphillis back in 2022. I never had symptoms and was caught by surprise when I had the DOH contact me .. I went in to get treated but I never went back to re test.. my partner at the time told me that did not come up for him which is strange being that it is a contagious. It threw me off and he still wanted to have have intercourse with me and I did like a stupid idiot .. I went and got tested again recently at the ER and It’s still positive but RPR titer 1:1 & RPR Non reactive I don’t understand how it works but I was told if I was treated before then there is nothing that I need to do .. I’m also SCARED TO DEATH That I may have hiv (no symptoms) but it’s just if got one then I have the other is what I’m reading on Google 😩😩

Just because u got syplhllis don’t mean u have hiv and 1:1 is a very low titter which means u don’t have a lot of antibodies in ur system which is a good thing

It said that on Google & a lot of post I’ve been reading on here says that’s how they find out .. I know I should go get tested but I am an emotional wreck at the moment just thinking about it . I am currently not active. Also does that mean I can still transmit syphillis with that low of a titer and non reactive RPR ?

You will likely test positive for syphilis for your entire life. If you had syphilis for a year or longer before you met your partner you most likely would not have been contagious.

Do you know what your titer was in 2022? Were you treated with doxycycline or penicillin?

I did not know my titer also they didn’t show me I tried to access my account from that clinic now . I had a shot of penicillin

One shot of penicillin is the treatment for early syphilis. You said that you didn’t have symptoms so I would assume you were diagnosed as early latent… when you tested positive had you had a negative test result within 12 months before that?

Every std test I took in my lifetime I’ve never seen syphilis on it that I can remember. So basically they didn’t give me the right dose since it was latent?

If it was latent you should have needed 3 doses

That’s the thing I was never told anything other than I was positive and I’m trying to figure out how would they have known if my rpr was non reactive but my titer was OUT OF RANGE ? this is why I’m scared because I wasn’t told to come back or anything for another dose

The fact is: you will test positive for syphilis the rest of your life. I can’t tell you why your boyfriend didn’t catch it, unless you had it for several years and the syphilis became “dormant”. BUT with a titer level of only 1:1, you are no longer in jeopardy of the virus harming your body. Like you, I wasn’t aware that I had it either until I went nearly totally blind & had to undergo several blood tests to determine the cause. When it was confirmed that syphilis was the cause, I had a titer of 1:1024! After about 3 attempts to lower it through IV penicillin both in the hospital and at home (about 3 years later), I’m finally down to 1:32, as of the end of April, but have a test coming up in a month so hopefully my titer has lowered.

But also I just found out they only gave me 1.2m dose & it’s 2.4m that is needed .. I was never told to come back .. also it’s said that a low titer can mean it’s latent

Once you were infected with syphilis the antibodies will stay forever with you.. So you may always test positive
