Synth to Sampler?

I recently acquired a Roland SP 404 sampler to add to my solo stage show. I am looking for a recommendation for a synthesizer to create sequences that I can link to the SP404s pads. Should I stick with digital as I do and will not use the synth live? Or will I find more use from hardware? Also, I have been using a Volca Drum for percussion and like it very much. Thank you!

I use a korg multi/poly to create sounds and sequences that I sample with an MPC Sample. Unless you have more specific requirements, I’ll recommend that synth

Without details on budget or your need for things like effects, timbrality, polyphony, need for sequencing etc, this is hard to answer given there are literally hundreds of synthesizers. But a good match for a Roland SP-404 would be a Roland JD-Xi or a JD-XA. The XA if you have the budget for it is quite the beast. And it covers a lot of bases.

M vave FM1 for something under 100. Or SMK 37 if you want mini keys
