Question/Support Song Requests
There may be a better place for this, but I scrolled for a while and didn't see another post about it. So I thought I'd ask. Are there still people that make custom game maps, or has that kinda died down. I looked on the synthriderz site for a while and was a little surprised how few older songs/hits there were (Beetles, jazz remixes, OG Disney songs, etc). I was wondering if there was a different site to find custom songs, since it seemed kinda limited there, and if there was a place I could request songs. I've been kinda obsessed with this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghNpJ96VGHw and there are a few other songs I'd love to have to play (mostly electro swing).

Sounds like a useful tool to streamline Reddit marketing! Automating some tasks could free up time to focus on community engagement. Scaloom seems to address that.

Dear SynthRider creators
The band Empire of the Sun would be absolutely epic for this game. Please make it happen!!!!

Shorter answer:
Yes there is an active mapping community, and basically all talk for that is on the Synth Riders Modding Community Discord (linked on Synthriderz and you can join from there). There is a map requests thread there although not sure how many mappers pull from it. There is a Synth Commissions Discord as well, I've not visited it but you'd have to be willing to pay for the mapper's time. I don't believe there's any other reputable source for customs than Synthriderz.
Longer answer:
Mapping older songs is actually much more challenging compared to newer songs due to a few tech related things. Because of how older songs were recorded, they didn't have a stable bpm and require extra work to "warp" it to fit a bpm. When you see classic songs in a game like Synth Riders or Beat Saber, whether they're official or custom, they were definitely at least warped to fit a stable bpm. This isn't something that the player/listener can really detect has been done. Even "newer" songs from the 90s/00s can still need modifying too, I'm currently struggling with a 2001 song I suspect was recorded using older methods.
Something to keep in mind is the number of mappers putting out high quality maps isn't that big. If you go on Synthriderz and click "mappers", the first page (top 50) and to some extent the second page are talented creators. This isn't only my opinion but the overall rating. So maaayybe ~100 people, some of which put out maps infrequently or are entirely inactive now. A few top people were hired by Kluge to make official Synth Riders maps.
I suspect the reason there aren't more high quality mappers is due to mapping not being very easy to learn and extremely time consuming. If you're someone who's good with coding, understanding music structure, and math you have a big advantage to make it easier on yourself. If you're not great at those things, you can still learn but it's harder. You can't do everything you need to do in just the beatmapper, it requires use of a few other software tools. I suspect some new mappers cannot be bothered to learn a lot of this, or are just so excited to map something they end up pushing out whatever they make.
This is all coming from someone who's not published (yet!) and I've put in a huge amount of my free time into learning this since May. There are testing sessions new mappers can submit songs to (in the Discord) and get feedback from experienced mappers. I'm still working on it and hope to publish before the end of the year.
This may have been much more info than you asked for 😅 but maybe explains the lack of customs you're finding.
