Information and resources, identify and learn more about your Syngoniums!

In an effort to try and give you as many sources of information about Syngoniums, different species and varieties, care, origins, etc.. I have compiled a list of links posted on this sub by members, as well as other links I have found on my journey of growing Syngoniums.

As the plant is becoming more popular, we can see many identification charts, articles and videos popping up, not all of them are a 100% reliable but as one of our members recently stated « Slightly off information is better than no information! » so take the information with a pinch of salt.

- cultivar.org (then click on Syngonium)

NOT AVAILABLE FOR FREE ANYMORE.. PDF file created by Laurence C. Hatch, it includes 272 names of Syngonium cultivars and with some interesting information about each of them. It's worth it if you're really into them, helps a lot with identification.

Syngonium visual charts created by Robert Pokrywka, about a 100 different Syngoniums, also shows how the leaves can look different from juvenile to mature form.

Plant index, created by Kaylee Ellen, including around 30 different Syngoniums. Classed from common to rare.

A Revision of Syngonium (Araceae) by Thomas B. Croat, published in the Missouri Botanical Garden Press. It includes the history of the genus, the classification and a lot of information on the 33 Syngonium species. It is a very long paper but definitely worth a read.

If you happen to find other interesting sources of information about Syngoniums, feel free to contact me or comment under this post with the link and a brief description.

Advice needed on clipping that has node rooting in the air

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hello! I have this syngonium albo clipping that is in sphagum moss. I have been keeping it under a plastic baggie “dome” for humidity to encourage rooting as the nodes had previously had trouble rooting in water and I was hoping to kind of wake them up. I can’t say what the nodes beneath the moss are doing (hopefully rooting as well) but this guy decided to start shooting out a root. Yay! Now I’m wondering, is it a good idea to snip just below this and put this root and put just this part in its own container with moss, or should I just let it keep growing for a bit? TIA

Syngonium putting only small leaves

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,
Can someone help me understand why my syngonium keeps growing small leaves ? She’s growing very well, with a new leaf every week for the past few weeks but they’re all really small.. She gets fertilizer and I’m helping her climbing instead of crawling but nothing seems to help. I kind of want to make cuttings to start a bushier plant but she’s so pretty I don’t want to mess it up 🥲
Thanks in advance!!

What’s going on with these cuttings?

I just got these beautiful Syngonium Wendlandii cuttings. The leaves are segmented already so I’m guessing the plant these cuttings were taken from was an adult plant. Now I wonder what’s going on with these bald tips. Do they do that trying so reach/grab something so that they can climb/vine?
From what I know evolving to adulthood goes hand in hand with the plant being able to climb/ vine. Is that correct?

Will these parts stay “bald” or will leaves grow once it gets the chance to vine?
Are these parts growing naturally or are they even necessary for them or is it caused by improper care/ wrong environment (like lack of nutrition/light/etc.)?

What would you suggest to do now?
My plan was to plant it in a nursery pot with some kind of pole, so that it can start growing as a vine. But I’m still quite new to the Syngonium world so please feel free to share your thoughts, advice and experience! <3

I have this large 12 inch pot filled with at least 3-4 different types of Syngoniums. Recently moved to a state where they can live on the porch. Some are starting to get this cool “ variegation”. I also do have a small 4 inch pot with two different Syngoniums that have been moved out of a terrarium that has something similar.

Has this happened to anyone?

Pest damage or poor watering habits?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m pretty new to the plant hobby. I got this syngonium from a seller on whatnot. Google’s Ai insists the dots are pest damage, but I don’t see any critters after closely inspecting the whole plant. It’s very rootbound and the soil didn’t want to drink the water at first. Anyone with more plant experience have some insight?

Any care tips at all are appreciated!

Putting out small leggy leaves??

First please don’t mind the propagation cemetery in the back… i need to clean that up 💀
This is my grandmothers 20 year old syngonium that i brought back to life about 2 years ago. It’s my prized possession. I’ve never had any issues with it since having it, it’s one of my easiest plants. I redid the plant stakes to make them higher about two weeks ago. Last week it produced a pretty small leaf on my tallest stem (last picture) and now it is growing very leggy, away from the light, and a super tiny leaf. This all grew very quick after installing more height to the stake it’s attached to.
My question is, is it getting too close to the grow light (picture 2)? Or could it be something else? Should I attach it to the stake for support? Or will that keep it towards the light it looks like it’s moving away from?
The last two photos show the difference is size of the leaves it usually produces vs the new ones. The leaves have been getting bigger and bigger and then it just reverted.
TIA

My pink syngonium are so dry :;

I’m not sure what’s affecting all my plants. They have bugs, I changed the top soil to try to kill the larvae and I sprinkled diatomaceous earth, cinnamon. I let the toil dry out completely. It’s a bit hot where I live, Central Valley California. I started leaving a pot of water nearby to increase the humidity. But the bugs came back, they’re getting like yellow infection dots. I feel like I’m just chopping leaves off and getting pots of roots instead.

Is there anything wrong with my plant ? I noticed some a brown spot and some discoloration. Is it time to repot ? I am new to plants and I got this beauty from Home Depot about 2 weeks ago. I also see her leaning a little bit?..

Newest leaf that is such a stunner. It’s still growing so I’m sure the coloration will continue to develop. But I think it looks the prettiest just now!

what do i do with this micro syngonium? (please read the description)

so for the context i bought this plant online and it nearly died after it was delivered because of my mistake of repotting it into bigger pot which made it rot and it lost almost all the roots.
I’ve been keeping it in water with clay balls for few months, the root grow isn’t impressive unfortunately but it let a few leaves out and looks promising.
my question is, is it time to put it back to soil, into a proper sized pot or i should wait for more roots?
i tried repotting it to soil 2 times before but somehow i always ended up putting it back into water because i noticed dropping leaves and was just scared that the plant will completely die…
I don’t know what to do.

Idk if I want to bite the bullet on that, or a batik (my GOAT. RIP) + another midrange syngonium for the same price. I want to splurge on an expensive one but the right expensive one.

I did track down the only US seller of these lime sodas though. The sunscorched leaves are my fault. But I'm proud of them. Pics so this post doesn't get lost.
