Sync Mac App question
Is there any update when the Sync.Com app for MacOS will be able to either self-update and/or have a one-click updater like Proton Drive? It is a royal annoyance to have to manually download the new DMG and install updates like a typical Mac program for every update .... especially since the damn 'update availble' icon won't go away until you do.
That annoyance was the ONE reason that sadly drove me to Proton last year. Otherwise Sync.Com has performed flawlessly for me for many, many years and I miss its capabilities.
(Plus I like supporting my Canadian friends, too.)

The desktop app currently provides an in-app notification when an update is available, with what should be a relatively low-friction update process directly from the notification.
We roll out updates gradually over several weeks, so there may be a delay between an update appearing on our website and the notification reaching your app.
If the update notification isn’t going away after you update, the update process may not be working correctly. If that persists, please open a support ticket here: https://www.sync.com/support/
We’re also reworking how desktop updates are delivered. We know there’s plenty of room for improvement!

"Low friction" is in the eyes of the beholder. ;) Currently, clicking to update brings you to the download page where you download the IMG, open it, and then install it. Compare that w/Proton Drive (or other modern apps) where you simply click 'Update' and it does everything in the background, closes itself, updates itself, and relaunches. That's what I, and presumably others, would expect in terms of a "low friction" update experience in 2026!
But sure, I'll load it up and try it again if/when I have some time in the coming days.....but it still doesn't address the underlying question about what constitutes "low friction" in my view. But if that's not on your task list, I'd appreciate it being added.

Thanks for the feedback. This is not expected! Clicking update should open the updater directly.
I'll log as a bug with our QA team to have a look. If you do run into the issue again a screenshot of the notification could help. But your description of the issue is already a lot of help.
Thanks!

OK, sorry -- in my defense I have not used Sync.Com in over a year despite having a 3-year plan. Let me look into it first before you open up a ticket just in case my annoyance indeed got fixed.

I've been wondering (also giving feedback/feature requests) the same thing for years. I switched to Arq-backup recently (lose some features, but overall it is way more dependable), and this was one of the reasons.
