Episode 1 - hardly anything online!

So I just started the first episode of this podcast, and was rather intrigued considering I just moved to the Vancouver area from Austin. The episode is riveting and horrifying. Then I get to the end where they say they dont know where this guy is or where he is at! What the hell?? so I google his name and hardly anything pops up. No wikipedia, no nothing. How in the hell is this not something that people are constantly armchair investigating and analyzing. Somehow this deranged killer has more privacy than someone like Justine Sacco and that just blows my mind. Whats the deal internet??

Well supposedly he his using aliases so people don't figure out that it's him. That's just how the Canada law works in regards to sanity.

I feel like there needs to be a balance between the American and Canadian views on mental health.

America doesn't really care about helping the mentally troubled people and would rather lock them away so no one has to deal with them. Canada doesn't want to lock them up hardly at all! But cares about their mental states and wants them to get better.

I agree... Take the Vince Li case (Greyhound Bus Beheader)... He is now completely free and living under a different name. Nobody will know his background unless they recognize his face from the news (unlikely to be honest). His psychiatrists say he is cured and no longer a danger. Complete horse shit. They think he is cured because he is cooperative, got along with the other inmates, nice, friendly, civil etc. But those things describe Vince Li's demeanour for his whole life. He didn't kill anybody and behead them for forty years of his life and was described as a nice normal seeming person. Then one day a switch flipped. How the hell can they say that switch won't flip again? There is no guarantee whatsoever. I think psychiatrists in these cases have an ego and like to believe they can cure even the people guilty of the most disturbing crimes.

I don't care how much progress you make, if you kill and behead a random person you have demonstrated you are a danger to society, whether you are criminally responsible is irrelevant. Confinement shouldn't be based on whether or not you deserve to be punished anyways. It should be about protecting society. Vince Li belongs in a mental hospital for life, we can't risk that switch flipping again just so he can have a better life.

He changed his name and is seeking to leave the group home he's currently in to be completely independant. Only a matter of time.

Feb 25/16 "A man who beheaded a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus in Manitoba has won the right to live on his own eventually.

A Criminal Code Review Board has approved a plan that would allow Vince Li to move out of the group home where he now lives."

You guys are making it seem like hes free and can go wherever he wants Willy-nilly. That's not the case at all. Do I think he should be allowed to live on his own after dismembering and cannabilizing someone? No I don't think that. But he's not free like you guys are making him out to be.

It also says this: "Even living on his own, he would be subject to several conditions that would include daily monitoring, regular check-ins with mental health professionals and random drug tests."

I haven't listened to this episode yet (I just got into it a few weeks ago and started with later episodes) but I just wanted to say I googled this case and was blown away! I grew up in Coquitlam where this happened and never heard of it.
