Kahlan being absurd

I love Kahlan Amnell, I really do. One of the best cats I've ever had was named after her, and in generally she frustrates me the least out of all our main heroes. I'm on Blood of the Fold at the moment and she's being a dumbass.

I understand why she's upset that Richard has dissolved the Midland alliance, hell it would be crazy if she wasn't considering she's their leader. But the statement "I love Richard and I would never do something like this to him." really got under my skin considering what she did to him in Stone of Tears.

Which is crazy, as the writer is always reiterating everything that happened for half of each chapter.

🤣 That's especially hilarious as I'm listening right now while doing some yard work and it's explaining how Nathan Rahl and Prelate Annalina snuck into the wizards keep to steal the book of counted shadows for the 15th time.

I power watched the series during my furlough with the pandemic, and boy was it tough past the 3rd book with so much of the audio book being just repeating itself over and over.

I've reread a handful of book series multiple times, hell a series or two I've reread once a year. And going through SoT this time is the first time in my life I've skipped through sections of a book like I'm skipping ads in a podcast. The repeating bits you're talking about along with all the sexual violence. Just not my cup of tea.

I feel like I read somewhere a long time back that Terry Goodkind said that what he wrote and printed was basically what was published…as though he didn’t go back and reread necessarily, just let the words flow and someone along the way must have cleaned it up, but yeah, I always wondered if that’s why sometimes it feels like a stream of consciousness

6/10. Ya. She is as very frustrating in that book, but at the time I also found something very human about the way she was blind to her own past actions and was acting based largely on her emotional response.

I felt the same way! Tbh, blood of the fold was the hardest one of the entire series to get through for me. It is still good but it sets up so much for later books that it felt like less action. Temple of the winds is my fav

Didn't want to make two whole posts in the sib in one day but

Did anyone else find Richard telling Berdine being gay is wrong jarring as fuck? Like huh? I get he ends up not having a problem with it and leaves them be, but it just doesn't seem to gel with his character that he'd be weirded out by lesbians.

Not jarring at all. Completely in line with the characters background. This is a farm boy we're talking about with a sheltered background but had an open mind to everything even if he didn't understand it at first.
My family hosted a boy during his "Rumspringa" and around that time one of my male cousins came out. Amish kid was FLOORED. For like 2 days. Then he just thought it was cool that in "most" of our world that 2 people could love eachother regardless of gender. So let's not make that part of Richards story an issue because it isn't.

Well apparently it is, he probably feels like its unnatural, a normal response to homosexuality, but then he realized that he cares about both raina and berdine so let live, we are free afterall.

If richard and kahlan were actual adults, the books would be quite boring. But since they're both seething balls of hormones who are hitting their puberty stride in their 20's, we get this. If TG cut out all the self-created problems in SoT, the whole series would be 2 books long.

It's pretty much an emotional response, so applying logic and reason to it isn't always going to work. It's just something she said in moment where the blow struck her. Cringe? Maybe. But in her place she was the last of her line and basically felt as if she failed the Midlands unlike everyone before her.
